abrcrombe said:Hey guys,
Well I should have the lucky opportunity to get a new car soon. Definitely like sporty cars, and while I don't know how to drive stick yet (will start learning this week), I would consider a car with stick or auto or paddle shifters. Any ideas on what to get? I prefer no verts, and RWD if possible. Handling and acceleration are on top of my list, and safety, reliability and price are on top of my parents list. Some examples of things that intrigue me are acura tsx (used), bmw 3 series (used), infiniti g35 (used), mazdaspeed3 (new), and things sort of like that. Keep in mind that I am only 19 so I can't get a car with a huge engine because insurance would kill me.TIA
Definitely out of my price point. By like a factor of 3!! Haha, what are you looking for?Whitethunder46 said:GT500 Shelby, will put you back about 60K though.
Autobytel.com and Edmonds.com are also 2 other good sites for reviews, etc. I also am in the process of looking for a new car.

Whitethunder46 said:Like I said, I have a 2001 Mustang GT. It's not really economical for me and my commute. I really like the Mazda 3 S's, but the speeds are out of my price range. Basically whatever I get for my car, is what I have to play with.
You can get quotes online from some of the major insurance companies. That should save you some time.abrcrombe said:I definitely am trying to consider insurance and repair costs for this. On car and driver or something they have this cost to own calculator and what they expect a car to cost every year for 5 years. Needless to say, there are some cheaper ones and expensive ones. I am also going to take a list of cars in to my insurance agent and get some real quotes. This will lie heavily on my decision and especially on my dads. And my dads old boss has a 7 series and it is in the shop more than he can drive it, so my dad is kind of worried about BMW even though I know a 7 series is ALOT less reliable than a 3.
BTW, would be nice to get the new gt500 (i think that is what it is) or that shelby concept. (is that what that is?)
The CTS-V really impressed me, I love my friends e39 M5's but hard to find in good condition. The V actually has sharper handling and is a little quicker (and plenty of bolt on goodies, GM will even warrenty the Magnuson Supercharger). I had a few leads into some M5's but one ended up having a Vanos issue that was found when checked, another I had somebody in Cali drive and it just felt loose (he said the clutch and brakes felt like they were worn). Another was perfect, but they were asking 60K for a 03' and it had the tan leather package with wood grain. I only liked the aluminum trim with black leather.abrcrombe said:Surfer - Yeah I am kind of leaning towards and asian made car (I don't want to really but its a good compromise) and I think you should wait for an e39 m5. Something about the CTS doesn't strike me, but everytime I see an e39 M5... well that is a different story. Have you seen those BMW films with Clive Owen? The Star is my favorite and the driving with that m5 is AWESOME!

As for service, the costs can be expensive, but in the past 10 years all I've had to do is oil, belts, and brake pads. Honestly, I think the car is indestructable! For the past 5 years or so, I've been waiting for it to totally die so I can get a newer 911. But it just keeps going . . . and going . . . and going . . . and going . . .
