NEW - Dr. ColorChip Paint Chip Repair Systems

wait a minute, you guys get all the sunshine and want our money too? i figure my name is going on a new wing at ag. just a thought

We have to pad the state income for when hurricanes come a blowin'. Of course I would be in a dilema to either replace a blown off roof or buy more AG stuff. I kinda like the blue tarp over the hole look...would buy polishes instead.

This is interesting. I posted a thread a week or so ago about my first ding/chip. I actually just bought some touch-up paint, as well as some touch up clear coat, to try to make it look better. I noticed the Dr. Colorchip does not have clear coat. Is the clear coat not needed?

Great question, can't wait for a response! :xyxthumbs:

No, never use cc with touch-up paint :nomore:

Exactly what I wanted to know.

No, never use cc with touch-up paint :nomore:

Why not? If the layers are prepped and applied properly what is the issue?

I would think you could do something like this:

Alcohol
Dry
color coat

lightly sand and polish after 30 days

Alcohol
Dry
clear coat

The simple answer is with paint touch up and filling in chips, hand applied clear coat may results in overly shiny patches that stand out more than color paint. The goal is to create a repair that blends in as much as possible and that is what Dr. ColorChip does.

The reason that we offer Dr. Colorchip is because of their accuracy in color matching the paint, the numerous positive reviews on forums and the fact that there is no sanding required. It's really easy for anyone to do professional quality paint chip repair with this system.

would it be possible to order bigger size and mir our own paint ? What i mean is that if I'm offering this service to my customer, I can have the paint mixed custom-made at my car parts store and just use the mix instead of ordering a new kit every week.

Thanks Dwayne, that makes sense.

If I understand what you're saying then the color wouldn't match doing it that way.

I guess I just have not figured out how to use this product correctly. Ordered it a year ago to use on my 05 Accord, Graphite Pearl color. The paint match is spot on. I applied the paint to the chip, smeared as directed then let dry as directed. When I used the final product to remove excess, it also removed paint from the chip. I tried it several times, even with longer drying time and the same result - touch-up paint removed from the chip. So, I look forward to "how-to" instructions/video from AG. Right now, I consider the product a waste of money.

Interesting timing on this. I had bought their kit directly from them a while ago and just got around to using it. I, found it would remove the paint if it did not dry enough. I let a bigger chip dry overnight and had no issue with it. I also do not like their glove smear technique. I dab it on with a pointy toothpick and then smear it with the side of the toothpick. It completely fills the chip and the excess is easily removed if allowed to harden long enough. Congrats for carrying it!! It's a much better system than Langka in my opinion.

Thanks richy. I am going to try your method to include a longer drying time. I hope i have better luck with the next try.

This is what I like to see, hands on evaluation and recommendations......:props:

I have used the the product to repair stone chips from highway travel on hood and bumper. I have found the product to work out great for me. (It beats a repaint). Like others have mentioned you need to learn how to use the product. I have found that it takes a couple of times to fill the stone chip or area, patience, etc. Prep. is important also. You do not rush the product, though you do have a time limit.

The following web sites may help you further. Hope this helps.

There was alot of discussion on this product last year. Here is a link to areas that I found useful. The secret to using the paint is slow, thin layer, and patience. There was an area of actual user feedback also. Not sure if AG will be handling technical questions, but I found the company very good at responding timely to my email questions about their product. As AG mentioned I found the color match exactly like OEM paint, etc.

Im the MAN:buffing:

Hi Guys,Is dr. colorchip the same as ssr or different.

Thanks Kevin

Not sure ? What does SSR stand for?
I know of various system out there, Dr. Color Chip will not force you to take out a home equity loan to purchase, and its simple to use and does not require company training or other added expenses. The color match in my case was exact (OEM), if the color does not match they will do what it takes to make it right.

I purchased this kit from AG last week and finally got to use it yesterday. I am VERY impressed with this kit and the results it produced. I have a black CTS that has 114,000 miles of road rash and rock chips. I filled dozens of large rock chips and literally smeared the paint on over 3/4ths of my hood using the t-shirt method for road rash. I used less than half of the product supplied in the kit. I followed the instructions exactly and my results were as dramatic as the photos in the add. I regret not taking before and after pics.
*It was 92 deg and humid here and the paint dried faster than I could smear it on the hood.
**I used the smallest brush in the kit for rock chips and it worked well.
***Don't apply any pressure when removing the excess paint, just glide the cloth back and forth letting the solution do the work.
****The cloth in the kit works a lot better at removing the excess paint than a t-shirt cloth.
*****Work the removal solution in a small area (6"X6") keeping the whole area wet and then buff with the mf immediately before it dries. The mf will get some paint on it with this method but I guess thats why it comes with the kit.
*****As disclosed in the ad, the kit didn't work real well on light scratches, but it did tone them down enough to make them less noticeable.

I am a newb to detailing and have no experience, I have learned a tremendous amount from these forums and Mike's articles/videos. Thanks! to all who participate.

I'm glad it worked for you. After you finished, you looked at your work and its the WOW factor. ShannonD. FYI I have found that low humidity and temps helps with the application. On some of the scratches you talked about you may want to give it a good week and the then go back with a tooth pick and just fill it in lightly & slowly. I have found myself using different techniques depending on the work being done. I have gone back cleaned area and reapplied another coat and it almost disappeared. I just finished repairing a couple of spots that the mechanics at a dealer did to the door area. I always keep some for the various vehicles that I have, to fix something. You will also find that you are going to have extra neighors and friends, wanting you to fix their cars. When people see the results, it changes their mind.

I bought a kit 2 years ago for my older DD (single stage Phoenix red Mitsubishi). It works very well for small chips and can do decent job of larger chips/scratches. I do recommend letting the paint set up longer than stated in the instructions (otherwise you will remove the paint, trust me lesson learned there!). I have not tried it on a metallic paint. The color match on my non metallic red was spot on.
