Hey all! New to the forum, and the detailing world. Now that it’s finally starting to get nice out I figured I would read up and join here after lurking for a while to get some more insight on detailing my car!

I own a 2005 Subaru WRX. Last summer I experimented with a clay bar and used wax for the first time. I had picked up a Mothers clay bar kit and some Collinite 845 (awesome wax). This is just a shot of how it came out:

I’m excited to do a little detail here pretty soon. Given the cars paint is nearly 10 years old, it has quite a few swirl marks, minor scratches, and other small imperfections that really stand out in direct sunlight. What would be the best way going about making it look great again? I want incorporate a polish this time as well. As far as the process goes, and correct me if I’m wrong, I would first wash my car. Then clay bar it. Then polish? And then wax/ sealant? I’ll have to check the detailing flow chart again, but I’m just wondering what would be the best in my situation.

Thank you all for the help and I am excited to make my car look great again! Time to read everything on here!!

You have the process flow right.

Wash-> Clay-> Polish -> Seal-> Wax (optional)

If the WRC Blue paint is anything like the Dark Blue Pearl on an Outback I owned once, it will be very soft. I was able to easily knock out basic swirls with Meguiars Ultimate Polish.

845 is a great product and will last a long time. It is now my go-to LSP.

Awesome, thank you! This is exactly what I was looking for.

Thank you all for the welcomes!

Welcome and beautiful car are you going to be machine applying or hand applying the polish?

I'll be applying it by hand. I'm sure with a machine it would turn out better, but I don't have access to one and to be honest am a little intimidated by them

Thanks again everyone! I just bought a bunch of new microfiber towels yesterday... !

You're results will be limited when doing it by hand. A DA with a polish is pretty safe and idiot proof if you read up here and watch a few of the video's. Once you see the dramatic difference between hand and DA you'll never go back!

Good to know, thank you. I've already started looking into DA's and reading up on them.

Also, quick question. Does it matter if I mix brands of polish/wax/sealant? Say I used Meguiars Ultimate Polish after claying and topped it with a different brand like Blackfire Wet Diamond sealant. Would I be better off or have better results sticking with the same company for everything I do or is it ok to mix them?

Thank you :)

Yo guy! It's Pottle from mainely.

I have the machine and some goodies. Don't be skurred. Serious though. It's cake.

Hey thanks man! yeah I've been reading up on them and it definitely seems like the way to go

It all depends, if you call customer service asking how you can mod your Rupes. They'll tell you that it wasn't designed to be modded.

But then you come here and it is almost preached to mod your Rupes. (mine is modded btw)

So as far as mixing companies products,
i.e Company A's Products mixed with Company B's products. If you call customer service they will tell you that it is not designed for that, but then if you try it and it works then go figure.

IPA wasn't designed specifically to remove polishing oils right before applying a coating, but it is used all the time.
