MILLIONS of cars have had the swirls removed and polished to perfection using the first generation Porter Cable 7424 and 7336 polishers, just stick to the 5.5" pads as at least for the correction steps for the pad rotation reasons.
Maybe test out the 5.5 Surbuf Microfiber Pads plus a couple of foam pads and this will give you two very different types of pads to work with.
I pulled #3000 Unigrit Sanding Marks using a 6.5" Surbuf pad with M105 without even trying hard.
