NEW - Meguiars D166 Ultra Polishing Wax at Autogeek.com

Tested Meguiars maroon cutting pad and their yellow polishing pad. I expected the maroon pad to leave micro-marring and it did. I have an article on pads and cleaner/waxes here,

How to choose and use a one-step cleaner/wax by Mike Phillips

See the part under "The Secret"

Next I tested the Meguiar's yellow polishing pad. I was surprised that it actually did enough correction to meet my expectations and left a very clear and high gloss finish.

PLUS wipe off is SUPER EASY!

More tomorrow!

I was next door at McKee's Thursday Night Open Garage and saw Mike as I was leaving.

He was nice enough to invite me to try it out on his "project".

Works great and super easy to wipe off.

It does look like banana pudding. Don't care too much about the smell though.

It's odd that miguiars didn't want anyone using their maroon cutting pad on paint until now with the release of this 166. They say it was to prone to heat build up and recommend using it only as a backing pad for bonnets.

I read that right off their website. But now they are recommending it for use with d166. I don't know what changed?

I believe there's a newer different maroon pad that's meant for random orbitals. Check the part numbers.

You are thinking about the old pad. The new burgundy foam disc is a new foam design and a great cutting pad.

Anyone know how D166 finishes yet? Hopefully it doesn't dust :/

Mine actually arrived yesterday! How did I miss that package on my kitchen table :) Looking forward to testing out all three for sure. My test is going to be on a 2002 WRX, bright blue in color.

This is why I like white clay, it enables a person to more easily identify possible sources of contamination.

That's precisely why I reached for the good ole Meguiars clay this past weekend when giving the paint on my car a quik clay in order to prep for testing some new product 50/50 on my car.

It came up nearly clean, and that's always a nice sight to see. :)
