Hi Guys,
apologies in advance for my long first post, but hopefully you'll relate to my story.
my name is Mike Johnson, live in Plano Tx. i had a jet black BMW 2004 530i (E60) for 10 years that i babied - hand washed and waxed. I really got into making her look good, and boy she did. with her age and 125k miles she started needing parts replaced that even i, a moderately skilled DIY with a shop manual and access to Youtube, just couldnt find the time or skills to do, so looking at too much money to keep her up i just traded her a month ago for a 2014 BMW 535i MTech F10. she was a lease car, now i own.
Now i get to baby a new baby. She is Carbon Black Metallic and actually changes colors. in the sun she's metallic dark blue *the color of carbon copy paper if you remember those darn things* and all other times looks black.
The thing is my new baby is only a couple of years old and needs some good loving. it looks good, for sure its a bmw, but after having her home a couple of weekends when it has NOT stormed here (!) I got a chance to hand wash and wax her, and boy was i shocked. she needs to be claybar'd sooo baddd.
I had done that to my last car about 10 years ago, but it's been awhile. definitely rough hood, and its clear her previous owners didnt love rubbing on her like i do.
anyway, i looked on youtube to see if i could get some claybar advice, techniques, etc. and ran across this dude named thejunkman, who has a ton of videos posted about the right way to wash a car, etc. interesting stuff. he got me hooked. he's telling me to use 2 buckets to wash, get a pc7424xp, here's the right pads, on and on. he really got my passion up and i learned a lot, but after watching his vids I decided to look to see if there were more enthusiasts out there like him and me that like to make our cars look really nice and keep them that way.
thats when i found Mike at AG, and i have been hooked ever since.
i just ordered a kit with wolfgang products and a flex, it's on the way, and i cant wait to get started. Right after i claybar.
glad i found the forum and happy to be here. if there's any interest in my post after all this reading, i'll look forward to future chats with guys that get a real kick out of doing detailing to your cars.
Cheers
