New model g21 backing plate failure

Unfortunate, no doubt, but it sounds like they know about the issue. I believe someone posted that's why the wide release has been pushed back.

I'm sure they'll take care of you.

I don't have experience with other brands. This and the old model worked pretty good for me. The new backing plate is made just different enough that the old style backing plate will not work. To bad, I have 2 of those.

It uses the newer Rupes style plate oblong vs round
I'll check again and see if Makita plate is newer style or old

Thanks, it would be nice to have a backing plate for this one.
I am thinking about a flex 3401 though.

Makita PO5000C is the old style, do won't work
Rupes mark 2 and mark 3 plate will work

Also Makita PO over the 3401
3401 over the xce

Ok, got back from vacation today and my new backing plate was here.

Looks like they added metal where the bolt passes thru the plate and maybe the harder grey plastic is a little thicker.

I still found the polisher to have a lot of vibration. I wonder if the updated BP fixed this?

Did you use the right spindle to match the weight of your pad? I saw on their YT channel people aren’t following the instructions and using the right one to make the counter weight work with the desired pad and then they notice excessive vibration.

I never got back to ask you about the makita, why do you prefer it over flex?

I found it to have to much vibration also, and have not used it till this week. Out of the blue I received another backing plate from Griots. I tried it again and after a few panels my hands were tingling.
I tried it with lc hdo and force hybrids.
I am debating if I should try some griots pads or send it back and get a rupes.
I really wanted to like it, because their customer service is excellent and they seem like nice people.

Did you use the matching bolt? My G15 is butter smooth.

I have the newest version of the G15 as well and it too is very smooth when using both Thin Pro and Flat pads from Lake Country. Love the tool. Powerful, great ergonomics, and I can work so much faster than I could with my older short-through DA.

I am debating on sending it back or ordering some griots pads. On another note, my flex did this:
