New Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner

For some reason I just don't have faith that these small spot cleaners will clean at appropriate temperatures or thoroughly rinse out the cleaner from the carpet. But to each their own I suppose.

I have a Bissell as my back works great never a problem getting stuff clean.

I know they can make a bigger difference over non-machine methods. However, after working in an industry that involved cleaning upholstery and carpets on a regular basis, and having an opportunity not only to talk with a subject matter expert, but to work with this individual for a longer than expected period of time, my knowledge base instills bias against using anything that doesn't heat up water to sustained high temperatures. Not to mention a machine such as these would require much more water extraction to completely rinse the chemicals from the upholstery.

Please don't take my comments as a put down or damnation of these products....Because they are better than nothing and they do have their place, I'm just trying to suggest that these machines should neither be viewed as an industry standard or even a substitute to hot-water extractors since they do not provide that function.

I just bought the new Rug Doctor Portable at Target - On sale for now 15% off and Free Shipping Total was $136.41 with Tax. I Will let you know how it performs once it gets delivered and I have a chance to use it! I am sure it is better than my old Dirt Devil/Hoover Spot Scrubber.

I know some of you prefer the units that heat up the water, but if you are not careful and do not know what type of stain you are removing, heat can actually set the stain into the fabric and not remove it!

Ditto here . Ordered on line we will see. 15% 0ff $135.74

Wife just bought me my Valentines gift :)

Update New Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner

I got my Rug Dr. the other day and used for the first time. I use the motorized head on some salt stains along with spraying folex first and it did a nice job. In directions it says to add hot water from sink...

The nozzzle / head is bigger that the LGM and it was hard to get areas around the seat and door jam areas.

This unit has wheels on it and it kept flipping on its back when pulling on vacuum.

I kinda miss my LGM. When I left it in the garage the solution bottle froze and crack because I left product in it. I had it for several years.

Thought I would try something new. I give it a 8 out of 10 IMO

I decided not to buy it. Instead I bought a Bissell carpet cleaner and used it to clean the carpets in my house.

Since I only detail my own cars, the hand held part of the Bissell works great. This unit really works well for your home carpets and the hand held wand works great for upholstery as well.

That`s exactly what I use as well. This crevice tool works great as well if you dont have it:

I have lusted for a hot water extractor for a long time. But lately, I keep asking myself if its really worth it? These articles seem to say its not.

I got my new Rug Doctor Portable and the build quality was far superior to my old LGM that used to leak and to my Dirt Devil/Hoover Spot Scrubber that recently died! It did a better job on my carpets than either of the old units I had. The sprayer is more accurate and the suction power is definitely stronger and does a better job of extraction - This one is definitely a keeper! My carpets are removable so I did not have the trouble with the unit tipping over that KBsSS had! I agree that the head is larger than most and would prefer a smaller one but it was not a problem for me. I give this one a 9 out of 10 only because the head would be easier to manage if it were smaller.
