New Shop Build

Wow that is a really nice place. A few minor things like some shelving and you will be all set.

Jarred mate! Wow! :dblthumb2:

I'm glad I stumbled upon this post. Thats a really great shop you have. Loads of space, lighting looks good, really nicely presented & set up well. Very cool Jarred. Only thing I would change - is that white stuff on the ground outside . . . . :xyxthumbs:

You have probably already mentioned this elsewhere but are you going to carry on doing mobile work too?

Have fun setting it all up mate, awesome, good for you Jarred. :props:

Thanks guys:dblthumb2: Yeah, some shelving will be nice, and gotta get a washer and dryer still, but I'm loving it so far!

Haha, yeah, the white stuff on the ground isn't ideal for detailing, but at least now I'm in the shop when all that happens instead of dealing with it like I was a couple weeks ago:

As of right now, I'm cutting my mobile way back but still offering it. Pretty much just maintenance type details or wash and waxes (using Hydro2) are available via the mobile service, so all types of polishing or major detailing would be done at the shop. Once I'm totally set up in the shop in a couple months, I'll probably add a little surcharge for the mobile service to help encourage more people to bring their cars to the shop too since it'll be much more efficient.

Dude! That's awesome! CONGRATULATIONS!

What is the total length from back wall to garage door? Can you fit big rigs and RV's in there?

May want to put in a lockbox where people can drop their vehicles off and just drop the keys in the box.

Is there AC as well as heat?

Congratulations, fantastic shop. Right now I would be happy with an insulated garage. 37 deg F for a high today. Keep us updated.

If you dont mind me asking.. I want to know a rough idea on how much you're putting into this? not including rent and up keep as those vary from location to location. I think some people would like an idea on how much they would need to open their own place.

Totally understand if you don't want to share though.

thanks!

best of luck with your new shop

35 ft. I don't do RVs and big things. I have enough huge trucks to deal with here in the mountains lol. Yeah, a dropbox is on the list too, gotta do some research and find a good one. No AC, but t doesn't get into triple digits here many days a year and even when it does, it cools down into the 50s at night in the dead of summer, so I think I should be able to keep it relatively cool.

Yeah for sure! I don't know exactly what it'll end up at, but I don't plan on spending a ton, especially on things I can't take with me since I'm just renting. I was able to negotiate the utility sink, hot water heater, washer/dryer hookups, the extra lights and the drain into my lease, so didn't pay anything for those out of pocket.

The floor coating will end up at about $600 plus my own labor, waiting room was done for a couple hundred, and a washer/dryer will probably be something basic off CL. Other than that, the rest of the money spent will mostly be on storage, shelving, and a 2nd set of all my detailing stuff so I can leave my mobile setup in my HHR 24/7.

Hopefully that helps!

Looks great. Just a FYI, be careful with tire shine product use before you coat the floor, that stuff wreaks havoc with the bond on floor coatings.

What are those buildings called. I see a lot of guys running detail shops out of that type of building but I don't think there are any around me.
When I google "auto bay for rent" I always get old service stations. What do I google to find a building like that?

haven't seen you posting updates on FB, so i'm taking that as you're super busy taking advantage of being in doors now!

been in the high 20's all week, so i had to shuffle things around and haven't dont anything work related the past few days.

Even if you have excellent insulation, the idea is to keep the heat from reaching the roof. With a fan, it forces the air back down, as well as the AC, so in reality, it's a win/win. A tad expensive, but on those really hot days, or really cold days, you'll be happy you have it.

wow, that is huge, what will you do with all the space haha

thanjs for the tip. Yeah, I was trying to be as cautious as possible before doing the coating, but did an in-depth cleaning first just to make sure. I'm just finishing the last coat today then it'll dry for the weekend and hopefully I can get some pics updated on here next week.

It's just a standard industrial space, not sure if there's a Sid UDC name for them. Sorry I can't help more.

I've had some time for FB updates, but spend more time on IG these days.

that's good to note, I'll keep it in mind come summer time. Thanks!

Detail cars!!! :) also planning on storing tires and/or rims for customers in part of it once everything's set up. That'll hopefully offset some of the rent!

A few updates!

Pretty much finished the waiting room/lunch break/office area (might add a couple little things once I start selling product, but done for now):

Installed my sound system so I can hook up music and finished the floor for the entire shop, no pictures of the back area but it's all the same. I had to do it in two stages, and was quite a project between cleaning, drying, applying and letting cure, but it's done and I love it! NO more concrete dust, clean-up is way easier and their's added grip stuff in the final coat so it's not that slick when wet either. Pictures were taken at night, so there a little dark, sorry :(

Definitely still a work in progress, but it's coming along and I love it!

You have it looking good. Wish you the best in this endeavor.
