ok so i have never used clay before on a car. but my mother wants her car waxed so i figured i would use this opportunity to number 1 clay a car and number 2 try out griot's best in show liquid wax (before i am always used meg. gold class paste) got the griots cause i think liquid would be easier to use with a DA polisher than the paste has been. ok now her car has never been detailed and does have a few scratches so i was going to use meguiar's ultra cut compound in just the areas with scratches to see if that will help. then ult.polish, show car glaze and griots wax. but i deffinitly want to clay it i did the plastic bag trick and it was VERY bumpy. so how much will i need. any tips in brand (i want to get it from local store auto zone or advance auto parts) dont want to wait for a order on this one. i dont know if the car matters i guess some cars have different type of paint but she has a 2012 chevy equinox. i am assuming i should try and find heavy clay the most agressive right? since it has never been done. also i heard i can use the same clay on glass to? any advice on this would be very much appreciated

OP, excellent idea to clay the car! First, let me say claying is super easy so don't sweat it. There is the traditional clay bar that's used by spraying a clay or detail lubricant onto the paint. Once lubricated, just rub the clay back and forth. Super easy.

AG has great video's on how to clay bar. The second way is the fastest and easiest way to clay is to buy a clay mitt. Fantastic way to clay.

i actully took a look at the nano skin products especilly the pads that go on a DA polisher i am deffinitly going to check them out in the future but well not now first anywhere possible i always try to learn the traditional way of doing things this case it would be a clay bar i think. i also know that one of the local stores has a wash mitt similar to nanoskins i guess but it is made from "eagle one" and my bro in law had some bad experience with there products so i try to stay away ya know.. how much clay is needed for a chevy equinox (suv) also do i grab and use the whole bar or all of the clay or better idea on cutting it into pieces? i have read both

The meguiars clay bar kit or mothers or griots are all great kits! I would recommend not to buy the super high end detailing clay lube and just go with the standard clay lube when it applies! The Meg's gold class in liquid form is great too!

Drop the show car glaze from your plan. It won't add anything but extra work to the job. It's more for single stage paint.

No need for show car glaze in my opinion. Buy a mothers or me guitars clay kit from your local auto parts store, it will work just fine for you needs (probably about $20-$25).

I like the Meguiars clay kit but I must say the clay can be a bit of a pain when balling it up and flatten out. The nano skin mitt is just the way to go. Clay while you wash the car and done in 15 minutes.

You're starting off backwards, always use the LEAST AGGRESSIVE methods first. Ultra Cut Compound and an aggressive clay will likely do more to instill more scratches and swirls than they will remove. If you want to start aggressive, use Megs Ultimate Compound (~$10) on a cutting pad and either Mothers or Meguiars clay kits ((~$20), either will work great and they are the fine grade. There's no need to scour the paint's surface.

i read alot of people using the nano skin mit (i was thinking about getting one of the pads for the DA polisher *in the future*) right now i need something i can get localy not have to wait for in the mail so i think i am going to try the meguiars clay kit (thanks for the advice on this). also tho i found at one local store (advance auto parts) it is both on the site and in store so if you need to see what i mean go to the site it is called "eagle one surface prep mit" has any one used this or have any info if it is any good or not. my bro-in-law had a few bad experience's with "eagle one" products so i try to stay away but he never tried this specific product so i wanna know what you guys think. should i get this eagle one mit or go with meguiar's clay kit?
