New to Detailing

I also try wet sand, I went from 1200 grit to 2000 grit, after compound a few times and polish, I still see wet sand scratches.

I used orange pad at 1500 rpm and white foam pad at 1200 rpm. do I need a more cutting power foam pad? I need more practice.

Like others already mentioned, switch to a wool cutting pad, set you speed setting to 1500 RPM and then use an aggressive compound and see if that doesn't work better for removing sanding marks.

Factory baked-on paint can be hard to work on so don't be hard on yourself if at first you don't succeed. Practice makes perfect.

whats next???? my sand pad is missing so i had to use my hand, AG is sending one to me. I used soapy water. I would like to get some OTC product to remove the sand marks. any suggestions? today was better than yesterday, Thanks to all of your support!!!!!!!:buffing::buffing::buffing:

Do you have 2500 and 3000 grit? Although wool and compound should have taken out the 2000 like butter. You will have miro marring and need to finish down with a foam pad. Not too pleased that you are using Turtle wax compound.

You are either going to have to go over it with finer wet sanding paper or go back over it with your compound and wool pad to remove the sanding scratches.

I do have 2500 and 3000. I did finish with foam (white and red). im sorry if you're not please with the turtle compound, but its the more agressive compound of today (I follow the direction in the back, damp applicator and apply by hand). I will go get something better tomorrow.

so tomorrow I should go 1200 1500 2000 2500 3000?

the wool pad, is it the yellow one or the white one? cause I used the yellow one, the yellow one feels like cotten candy and the white one feels like a mob.

Try just going over it with 2500, then 3000. Since I do not know who makes your pads I can not say which one should be used. The thing is you need to use the wool pad and compound and remove all your sanding scratches before moving on to your next steps.

i have two wool pads, so Ill try the other one tomorrow.

Don't use the TW compound, as it will not give you the results you want to achieve. The yellow wool pad should be fine, and the white pad does indeed look ruined. What did you do to induce that damage? Otherwise... let us know how you are doing.

PS- the megs compound is def worth a try followed by the swirl remover with a foam polishing pad. Just stay away from the TW. I have a feeling if you used diff cuts and polishes... you would be solely amazed on what you have been missing out on.....

And remember when wetsanding not to use your finger tips to apply pressure to wetsand. This will cause a "valley" in the clearcoat after your done polishing.

The White foam pad I was cleaning it with the Duo-spur pad cleaning tool. I plalce the plate side of the tool on the pad and it did that. I guess I learn my lesson.

I did use my finger tips on wet sanding, AG forgot to sent the sand pad, but it's on it's way.

Well, it's a good thing that this is scrap then!

I practice with my detail guy today, his dewalt set to 1500 rpm to clear the sand marks, I had to set my to speed 6 to clear the sand marks. Is there something wrong with my buffer? We used the same pads

ok today I did pretty good, I tried speed 4-5-6 with compound and wool pads ( used both pads ) liking the yellow one more. then I removed swirls at speed 3. the compound I went horizontal and vertical, i did that and no more halograms. overall I think I did well. but I still need to practice and read more.

This morning the sun came up and took some pictures
