Well done man. I am actually surprised it turned out that well. The before picture was horrible, but the after looks pretty darn good!

Thanks Zapa. I was just as surprised as you are haha

Mike,

Thanks for the advice. This was my first paint correction period. I feel confident now and people need to have confidence in their products.

No problemo... been there done that, and following a simple repair procedure without wetsanding and at the same time matching your services to both your customer and their vehicle is always a win/win deal.

I'm very impressed by the UC and the AIO.

Yeah when Meguiar's introduced SMAT product they really made it easy for just about anyone to use a compound and get great results. Other manufactures have followed suit and have been introducing better and better compounds.

It's not like the old days where after using a compound the paint would look scratched and scoured...

I'd say it's about 90-95% correction but you REALLY have to look for the scratches. Any of you AGer's could find it but to the normal customer/citizen, you won't see a thing.

And that's perfectly good for an older truck that's a daily driver, not a show car.

You've left MORE of the factory clear behind than if you would have sanded and that means more of the factory UV protection will be there to keep the clearcoat and the basecoat from failing.

Good job and great picture documentation...

Wow! great result you got there. The before/after photos really say it all.

It just goes to show that the sage advice of "Use the least aggressive product to get the job done" includes a degree of judgment call.

In other words, you wouldn't normally think of Megs Ultimate Compound in the least aggressive starting point category, but under these conditions you might even have considered it too mild.

Edit to add, this would probably go in the "poster child for fixing keyed paint" photo gallery, if there were such a thing.

Nice job my man !!! :props:

Glad you didn't take my advice

If what I did didn't work, he was going to be taking it to someone else but I figured it was worth a shot. I'll probably never get into wetsanding because I'm mobile and strictly part-time. Thanks for trying to help anyways. :props:

I think this was a little less aggressive than an intentional keying would be. None of these scratches caught the fingernail and weren't very deep. I haven't seen many keyings that didn't need some touch up paint somewhere along the line. While I believe you'd get a good amount of correction, I don't think this would save much more than what didn't go through the CC.

Thanks for the kind words! I'm glad it turned out the way it did. His wife was blown away and I have both vehicles lined up for some more work.

I explained to him everything and under promised and over delivered. I told him what his options were if it didn't work but he had more confidence in me than I did haha. It is a work truck and it has seen its better days but hopefully I've just stole some business from another detailer and I can fix all of his mess ups.

Thanks again for all the help on this website, Mike.

That is an excellent bit of work and the results were amazing. I am like you I do this part time and wouldn't want to wetsand a vehicle. Just goes to show you what you can do if you just take your time and work smart. I have a job coming up where the owner wet sanded parts of his vehicle and doesn't have a polisher to correct it, after seeing it I don't think I will try wet sanding for a while. I can't wait to work on it now and have hopefully some similar results as yours. Good work and keep it up.

Just my advice and opinion Dennis, be careful because who knows how much he sanded off already. (Good luck)

I had a look at it yesterday and it doesn't seem like he sanded too much, however I did tell him I would try to fix it but no guarantees on the results. I will take some pictures, but with holidays coming up will be a couple of weeks before I can do it. Thanks for the advise, that's why I love me some forum, lol.
