I sanded emblems on the front and rear of a tahoe that were painted the color of the car(the clear coat had a lot of orange peel). I sanded with 3000 grit discs on speed 3 with my G110v2(vvery light pressure). The front came out perfect after I polished it with MF/D300. The rear emblem was a different story. I sanded it almost the same way, except I did 2 passes on the right half of the emblem. After I polished the whole emblem, the side it did 2 passes on was very hazy. I'm positive the haze is not sanding scratches. My question is, if I sanded through the clear coat, when I polished, would I have seen the paint color on my MF pad? I didn't see anything. Could it have been the way the paint was sprayed? The haziness is only noticeable in the dark with an LED.

You talking about the "bowtie" emblem on the grille and tailgate, Mark?

For something that small and intricate I would've done those by hand, but that's beside the point. Did you see any sort of haziness before you started on the rear emblem?

If you want to know for sure if you went through the clear grab a microfiber and some mild polish and try working it by hand to see if the color comes off; if it doesn't then you're probably looking at a different sort of problem.

And who knows, a mild polish by hand might take care of the hazing all on its own!

Do you think the haze is from the compounding step? I just did a mustang that had a section on the car that reacted totally different from the rest. I used d300 and it hazed horribly. I needed to use something with alot of oils in it I guess. 205 cleared it right up but after the d300 step it looked a whole lot worse.

Yes, it was the bowtie emblems on the front and rear. I should have done them by hand, but oh well. I don't think it's haze from the compounding step because I went over it with a lighter polish. I'll try the MF towel test as Charlie suggested. I really don't think I sanded through the clear with 3000 grit, I think it's a paint issue when it was painted.

Mark,

If they still look a bit dull paper and mask the entire area, clean the surface with Prep-Sol, and spray a coat of clear using a spray can. I've even done this on headlight lenses and they come out great...

I do like that idea, big time i was just working on some this week...

Mark, you already figured out the problem, its a chevy.

What's a Chevrolet got to do with that? Are you implying manufacture defect?

As our member 07 z-oh-6 said, these emblems where painted the color of that car.

I know for a fact that the Tahoe's bowties don't get painted the color of the car from factory- bowties on Tahoe's are always painted that familiar Chevrolet gold.

I've worked at Chevrolet dealership for years.

As for your problem my friend, sounds like a bad aftermarket paint job or a bad direct implant replacement emblem also.

I'm a Ford guy, thats all. Just poking fun at chevy.

Mark, I've found it alot easier for me to sand by hand instead of machine FWIW

When I read this post the word douche came into my head. I'm certainly not calling anyone a douche, but it was just the weirdest thing and I had to share.

I didn't get that reference either :dunno:

No, I completely got the reference...but still had the word pop up. Must be a subconscious association.

Wow an associate of a business making personal attacks ... Where's the professionalism accumen? What's next from Optimum? in a sec Dr G will come out and say I'm a D/k because I don't like his products?
SMH ... the few full bottles of Optimum are going in the trash as your company has lost my respect and credibility.
If you had any common sense you'd appreciate that not everyone has to like your product and that simply a mere tweak to a formula isn't going to drive up sales and increase hype but I begin to see the anterior motive ...

Where did they ever say that you have to like their products?? It's more so they're just making sure there's factual information about their products.

There was zero need for you to throw the OPC comment into this thread.

Mark the thread before mine mentioned using PepSol to prep the surface and I suggested OPC ... So not sure why Chris got so defensive but again maybe there's something underlying there ... Enjoy your optiless products I'm done with them... Don't care to ne attacked on this forum because I care for more effecient effective and economical products
I'm done with this topic

Pretty sure he said he wasn't calling anyone a douche. Just popped into his head. Some of us are so sensitive on this forum.

May be time to push away from the keyboard for a few days, Fred. Anyone who has seen your recent posts knows that you're antagonistic and your posts have NO merit. Your post I quoted is what it is no matter whether I commented or not and you knew it when you hit submit. If you posted helpful advice or informed opinions, we wouldn't be here, but you just keep poking the bear with snide, derogatory, and unfounded information so I also see YOUR ulterior motives.

Mark I'm sorry to derail the thread, but I cannot let some things go unanswered.
