Came in a few weeks ago. I called cust/serv. for a RMA for the OPC, but found other uses for it.

I've got that same image (2 - 30 wheelers dragging a 6-wheeler) , sans V T / OPT addition, on a cruizer.
Very nice gesture hand, I'm going to copy/paste for my personal use...Thanks!!!

Finishing up my latest home addition...and bath overhaul.

Clue: What every former desert dweller needs in winter?

08.12.2012’s "new word of the day":

Sauna

Definition:
1. A bath that originated in Finland, in which exposure to very hot, relatively dry air
produced by small amounts of water applied to heated stones
2. For/In modern saunas...
a.) Humidity level is controllable…
b.) The natural oxygen content of 21%, is maintained inside the sauna.

For most areas of the USA this year (2012) the temperature and humidity levels
made Detailing vehicles feel like being in a sauna!!

Hi VT...I'll take a stab at your poser.

Is it one of these?

Haven't followed the show trucks in a while. The last Pete (above) is a show winner from previous years and was for sale in Texas (?) recently (2012).

There is a Show 'N Shine in October, at a Lexington Va. truckstop, that I want to attend...only 1 hr. from daughter's school.

Cook:
1. prepare food.
2. undergo heating in order to become ready to eat.
3. happen: to be happening or developing.

In years past, often I would cook up my own aluminum polish from a recipe passed on from a parking lot 'shiner' that was given the name "Tube Sock". He earned this moniker from his penchant to inquire passers-by on the "Sesame Street" channel (19) if they had any tube socks for a down and out hand.
This old man would polish wheels and fuel tanks to a very high degree of finish with only a tube sock or two, and a bottle of home brewed polish that he cooked over a wood fire (in the woods) on the edge of the truck stop parking lot in Tuscaloosa Alabama.

MOONSHINE ALUMINUM POLISH (VERY STRONG)

A "new word of the day" for 08.13.2012:

Commingle

Definition:
1. To become blended.
2. To cause to blend together; mix.
3. Mix together different elements/substances
4. Change integrity (in physical/chemical make-up)
6. Melt---lose its distinct outline or shape

I’ve often wondered…

Unless someone is a bona fide Chemist...
Whenever there is an: "Away From Lab"… thermodynamical attempt to cause a phase transition
of solid/semi-solid substances, such as: waxes, polishes, and abrasive-containing compounds/"rouges"
...into a liquid phase…while they are being heated in various solvents/fire accelerants
(especially those with low: melting, boiling, auto-ignition temperatures, for example)…

…If there shouldn’t be a: Risk Management/Risk Assessment plan
in place for these types of commingling processes.

(Chemists/Laboratories do have such 'plans'...
...and even the education/training for syncretizing...
within their/these controlled environments!)

If not…and although:
Some may smirk
But Dangers lurk.

Just saying!!

Fortuitous word choice today hand, and thanks for the warning.

I use to brew my own, before I learned the proper way to polish aluminum. Back in the day, I did everthing by hand, and truck stop polish was the best available when trying to keep dual fuel tanks, tool boxes, steps, grill surround, and 10 24.5 Alcoas blinged out...all while maintaining 7-day, Shakey to the Big Apple turn-arounds.

The dynamics of a truck stop back in the day was defined by the players. There are those seeking the usual - food, fuel, and refuge. Then there is the underground economy - the back row (Party Row) , those providing services not known to the mainstream. There was more dangerous commingling on party row than any batch of polish cooked on a hot plate somewhere. Those very Angels that protected me on party row follow me today in my daily walk.

Todays commingling consists of adding a little OHC to the to the OPII as deemed necessary. Or, maybe a little OPC to my favorite carpet shampoo for exta bite.
Sometimes I'll even add IPA to my diluted ONR for use on interior windows (Thanks Chris!!) instead of using Stoners.

Speaking of Angels, three minor details before sauna job is complete.

1. Light switch oops and repaint pre-primed trim used for door casings

2. Sticker removal and glass cleaning.

3. Complete dust wipedown of all cedar and light polish on stainless steel heating unit.

Now, maybe winters bite will be lessened on my bones.

For 08.14.2012's "new word of the day":

débrouillard [dey-broo-yar]

Definition:
1. From French-speaking Africa and the Caribbean. The French use the world débrouillard
to describe motivated and effective people. In other words: To say a man is a débrouillard
is to tell people how resourceful and ingenious he is.
2. A person skilled at adapting to any situation
3. A resourceful person who can act independently or cope with any development.
4. "System D": (l’economie de la débrouillardise)

-The term "System D" stems from the network of: "inventive, self-starting, entrepreneurial
merchants who are doing business on their own, without registering or being regulated
by the bureaucracy and, for the most part, without paying taxes".

Perhaps an example of "System D"(?):
The dynamics of a truck stop back in the day was defined by the players. There are those seeking the usual - food, fuel, and refuge. Then there is the underground economy - the back row (Party Row) , those providing services not known to the mainstream.

-"In other words, the economy that does not bend over, to control and supervision,
is the ingenious economy. It is the working economy".

The way I interpret this is: According to some Economics Experts carefully observing the
downward spiral/depression of the World-wide Markets…
"System D" is (and may just need to be) the 'new'-economy of the future...The: Do-It-Yourself ethos!!

Another "System D" example(?):

-It seems that at the beginning of each year’s Spring/Summer-Cycle, many entrepreneurs…
new to the 'World of Detailing'…set out to make their mark. Now...Whether they adhere/follow the bureaucratic,
red-tape processes…or not…may be a determining factor effecting their status as a new member
of the débrouillard/"System D" underground society.

"Speaking of Angels":
Angels must have been (and still are, no doubt) watching over me during my lifetime here on earth!!
And…Congratulations on your: "Desert-facsimile-project"!!!

Speaking of Angels, three minor details before sauna job is complete.
Now, maybe winters bite will be lessened on my bones.

Thanks for your kind words VT!...

Ah Yes!...
Deleveraging...(It's been called: "A Fate Worse Than Debt")

$11T (I could possibly go on, and on, and on)

And just think…
There’s probably about another $11-15T that’s already: 'Lying-in-Wait'...In the wealth-destruction, deleveraging-pipeline.

1.The housing-market as it continues to retreat to its pre-bubble days

2. The Stock Market…still way, way overvalued…and, as described by one analyst:
"Wall Street is a machine run on embezzlement, fraud, willful obscurity in service to information asymmetry,
extreme leverage, predation, disinformation and malignant malinvestments
in parastic speculations with no value except transactional churn".
(I’ve lost The Faith in this system…many others have also…IMO)

3. Long-term Bonds facing huge losses as interest rates rise.

4. Global-Overcapacity will certainly cause more deleveraging/sell-off of many surplus business assets,
including factories---leading to even further World-wide joblessness rates.

ARRRGHH!!!

-OK...I'll "Stop the Madness" of this posting by saying:

For the life of me…I still can’t fathom how it’s possible:
To buy/spend our way out of the current economic crisis!!

And...As an old-time favorite group of mine use to croon
(I suppose I'll just still continue to follow suit):

Special Note (I was just athinking):
Perhaps (?) Tundra_10 could use a little dose of this "medicine"...nowadays.

Superb details are available about these types of boards. Thanks fellas.

I have born witness to the insanity of deleveraging as households in Clark County were selling assests to pay off bills in order to survive. By mid '08 and into '09, people were selling everything, including the kitchen sink, to stay afloat. Complete detail trailers, fully equipped with top notch options, and low hours were selling for as low as $3,500.
$400,000 motorcoaches selling for 40-60% of value. Underwater mortgages short sales. Rental property pricing stagnating, etc. Before it was over, there was a trend of parking vehicles in the garage, locking the doors, and flying back to one's origins - never to look back.

Question? Going way off topic, but what would have happened if those that were pushing the ideal of Social Security privatization or individual accounts that were tied to Wall Street, would have succeded? Hope the question makes sense.

A "new word of the day" for 08.15.2012:

Privatize

Definition:
1. Take something out of state control
2. To transfer to private ownership an economic enterprise
or public utility that has been under state ownership
3. Denationalize,

Makes perfectly good sense to me---An additional $4-6T in wealth-destruction!!

IMO...Even if one tries to keep "politics" at bay on this Detailing Forum,
sometimes it may be of service to jog memories. Maybe not...But:

Not too long ago...
I remember when given the "green light" to spend the...political capital...that the newly re-elected
President George W. Bush stated he had earned during his re-election campaign...

...House of Representatives Congressman Paul Ryan (R-WI),
and United States Senator John Sununu (R-NH)...co-sponsered legislation that was titled:

"The Social Security Personal Savings Guarantee and Prosperity Act of 2005"...

...Their thwarted attempt at not only "privatization", but also: The complete
dismantling of the "third rail of American politics": Social Security…Including Medicare.

More recently...
Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney did select
Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan as his running-mate.

I was back West when all of this was going on. Las Vegans, being who we are, were in favor of the proposal. Really don't feel like looking this up in the RJ archives. Many on my job were looking positively towards this due to the then recent retirement age increase. Most had been paying into the system, like myself, for upwards of 30 years. Somehow, along the way, when the economy fell off, there was scant mention of this. And, that which I did read pertaining to the issue was hind sight anyway.

Durable:

1. capable of withstanding wear, tear, or decay.
2. able to perform or compete over a long period.

"Another System D example(?)"

I have been perusing Ebay and CL looking for mobile detail businesses, and , or trailers for sale. Not that I'm interested in purchasing, just gauging the durability of those businesses that I've been following since last fall, by viewing their websites and Facebook pages (bookmarked).
One trend that I have noticed is that those that have pricing swings on their sites, are the ones that are selling their mobile operations. Most of these hands are in Montgomery and Howard counties in Md, and in Baltimore. IMO, the prices that these sellers are seeking, seem rather on the High $ide, considering the actual cost of all components, and the fact of being used.

PS: I think that Tundra_10 has kicked us to the curb. Funny post though - I'm sure that he got a chuckle from your mention.

The Detailing-World has been "set on its heels" since the introduction of 'Coatings'...Claimed as the most durable LSP's to date.
Some are even, dare it be said, to be perdurable...so extremely-durable as to be considered permanent!

A "new word of the day" for 08.17.2012:

Ambit

Definition:
1. Limits; boundaries; confine
2. A circuit; circumference
3. Scope; extent; range
4. Latitude in a view/viewpoint
5. Gamut

Although each State has their own particular governing statutes…
Would the processes that entails 'Detailing', and those that perform these processes: 'Detailers'
...Be/fall within the ambit of what are referred to in the Insurance Industry as:
"Collision Repair" and "Motor Vehicle Collision Repair Operator", respectively?

The definition, and applicability, of the above Insurance-nomenclatures should be fully understood,
before one decides to venture into, or already maintains a: 'Detailing Business'…IMO.
