Well where do I begin. I have always loved cleaning cars.. and had many a detail and car wash job when I was younger. I remember when I would get a new (new to me) car I always hoped they would not detail it soo I would get the chance to bring it from dull to amazing.. well I have gotten out of the habit and life has taken over.. but I am back.. I have a silver Mazda3 and its gotten me back to wanting to detail away.. I have also realized that I didn't know all that much.. thats where this sight will help :) So if anyone can help me Im all ears.. here is what I need help with....
like I said I have a silver car.. good paint other than its not smooth and I have some surface scratches on the roof from taking off a bike rack...

- what is the best way to get down to the good stuff and build back up? clay bar or what I
am looking at getting a porter cable... so please help get my paint to look great..
- I have oxidation on my headlight lenses on the top i saw I can use plastic scratch stuff,
sandpaper, and then wax.. any thoughts?

:buffing:thanks!!!!

Hey I'm in VA as well!! Yes most deff start with a good wash and then clay bar. Its surprising to me how just doing the clay makes the surface feel mirror smooth. Really prepares the surface for polishing, and then applying wax/sealent.

I worked on a friends black Mazda Miata and i noticed the paint was very soft. However that was a 1995 model so things have probably changed since then( maybe someone here can tell you how hard or soft that paint is )

I really love my PC. When you take your time with it, you can really achieve some fantastic results, and youll turn heads every time you drive because other drivers are blinded by the intense shine haha! Of course if your willing to pay extra, the Flex is another awesome polisher which gets the job done a little better/quicker than the PC. EIther way, you will be happy with whichever you choose.

thanks AudiTTMan.. what part of VA? I wanted an Audi TT soo bad before I got my 3.. thanks to my 8 month old daughter.. it didn't happen:) always been a huge VW Audi fan.. So should I use a clay bar instead or before cleaner wax or something with some cut in it?

Yo! Another Virginian here--grew up in Arlington, now live in Roanoke.

awesome im from Roanoke originally now I am in Lynchburg:cheers:

Yo Akimel, I'm like 25 minutes away here in Blacksburg!

And Beyondink, i guess its about 2 hours from here!

Well I "think" you do the clay bar first, then proceed to a cleaner wax,,,,and then finally wax/sealent. This is what it says on my Mother's Clay Bar Kit lol

you guys suck :D. I'm in VA Beach and was hoping I would have someone to teach me.

yardie what kinda car is that?? all i see his Red Silicon hoses and a BIG OL TURBO!!!

Yea its a wild place come football season. All you can smell in the fall air are turkey legs and beer. However, i dont drink, but it still smells great ! ahhah

Welcome to AG
Get the PC and 4" pads, some Menzerna polishes or Meguiars 105 and 205, clay, and your sealant of choice.
Wash, clay, polish, then apply your protection.
As far as your headlights you can try to polish them with the same polish you used on the car, if you need more then you will have to wet sand.

thanks sal!! I am putting together my order now... I think for the headlights what I am going to do.. as it is just a clear coat type material that is pitting on the very top.. I am going to wet sand with very fine, then use meguiars plastic scratch remover.. then some polish and some sealant. should fix it.. doesn't look terrible but I deff. notice it!

"There's nothing more your car's paint wont love than a pair of DD's"

Could be your new slogan hahahah- if it were an exotic car wash and detail hahahah
