Newbie To Detailing - Need Products!

What is a good over the counter tire cleaner to remove old tire dressing? And can I use it on alloy wheels? If not, what's a good over the counter product for that as well?
 
Buy a gallon of APC (all purpose cleaner). You can dilute APC 10:1, 4:1, 1:1, etc.. And that can be used to clean tires, wheels, interior fabric, headliner, emblems, vinyl, dashboard, engine, etc...

Sooo lucky day. I won these products in a little survey at my local Advanced Auto Parts. Hopefully they are decent products. Thoughts?

Well... yes and no....

I'm sure most of us have been bitten by the bug.

So while we might have 105, we would then want FG400 or 205 then something like 4000 and 4500 (I have both :D)

Maybe a Foam gun :dunno:

but then you might want to look into a soap that is recommended to be used on the foam gun.

Not sure what you already have, but clay, buckets. Grit guards, machines (Rupes, Flex, PC, I just need a Flex to have all of them plus I have my Rotay, I do want a 1" electric polisher, if one exist, because I learned my lesson on the damage a PC can do with a 3" backing plate lol :D )

Then you'll want pads in different sizes and colors. Then backing plates. Then lighting.

So that's why I said yes and no. It's a never ending cycle, but it is fun and very enjoyable IMO. Plus it pays :)
 
I plan to use simple green to spray down the engine bay. Think that would be fine? If not I can always use the simple green on other uses around the housr

For the engine, yes. I would use it on the paint or interior, though.

I know there is a lot of information on this website with products and such but I want to make sure I am purchasing the products I am in need of.

- Remove mild/medium swirls (previous owner used drive-thru car washes)
- Give it a good polish as well as a good wax.

So my question is, what pads will I need for this 7" polisher and what ALL products should I look into. Keep in mind I am a newbie, and I am in the learning process. I don't want to be a cheap ass but I am trying to save a little bit of cash as well.

Chemical Guys CitrussWash+Gloss soap
It would of been good to get a PC 7424XP machine since like Mike said it is a good machine to purchase for beginner.

For the pads you can get a hex logic pads or Lake County pads with yellow backing plate. If you want to get a medium swirl remover there are many out there (3M, Pennicles, Chemical Guys V36) and polishers the same (I personally use Chemical Guys V38). For light swirl removers I use a Hex logic pad such as a Orange or Green pad and to polish a White hex logic pad. You can get any wax of your choice (stay away from Turtle wax) personally I use Pure Concours Paste Wax 50/50 which is awesome. It also wouldn't hurt to get some dressing for the trimming and wheels as well some wheel cleaner products. Glass cleaners would be good as well. Claying the car every 3-6 months would be a good idea.

I'm thinking about getting the PC soon.
That'll be my next big purchase. Thank you for your advice. I will be taking all of this into consideration!
