no more optimum for me, alternatives?

I've only had one problem with a product I bought from AG, and it was an optimum product, and entire 1/2 gallon of Optimum GPS that I bought to use on my Cargo Trailer.

In three months, the stuff looked like Cottage Cheese, , there was no shaking this stuff back together again. (should've sent that one back for credit-refund, it was garbage)

And for the 3oz I must've used, it was crap. Could've went to wally world, bought a $5 bottle of Megs Cleaner Wax and gotten better results.

Oh well. Live and learn, but I am leery of some of Dr. G's stuff since, and look at his products ever since with a tensed questionary brow. I'm looking away from Optimum myself at present day, wake up Dr. G. (Absowootley!)

Otherwise, the WOWA I bought from Optimum I thought was OK. But nothing to do Somersaults over.

Other alternatives for a WOWA besides UPGP would be WG Liquid Seal. Blackfire makes one too.

My recommendations would be:

Optimum opti-seal > Blackfire Crystal Seal
Optimum no rinse > Meguiar's D114
Optimum car wax > Meguiar's D156
Optimum gloss coat > 22ple VX3 or CarPro CQuartz

How do you know he didn't stock pile OC 2.0 and is still offering that? Everyone is always so quick to judge.

Quick to judge? If this were concerning Finest, I doubt you'd be so acceptable of this guys practices & excuses.

Look, as an OCP installer myself I am admittedly biased to this guy falsely advertising Opti-Coat. But it's guys like him that make it harder for any pro coating installers like you and I, regardless of if it's Opti-Coat, Finest, etc. Do you not agree?

I think this is a very simple fix. Change the wording on the website to reflect the product you are using.

Opti-Coat is what the authorized pro version is called.

Optimum Gloss Coat is the consumer version being used. So call it what it is "Optimum Gloss Coat". Its still a coating but the name is not Opti-Coat.

+1

Another product which didn't impress me, was given some in a bottle, was Hyper Polish. Worked my ass off trying to get it off, contrary to many saying how easy it is.

Agreed. Although I have never used 22ple. The newest version of CQuartz is relatively easy to apply and looks awesome!

I understand your point and I agree with you. CarPro faces the same challenges with 3 considerably different coatings all named very similarly: CQuartz, CQuartz UK, & CQuartz FINEST.

The problem, though, is that it seems like Optimum changes the name of their products every other week. So how can you really fault a guy for being too busy to worry about updating his website to keep up with the ridiculousness of a company going through a brand identity crisis?

I like Hyper Polish. I don't use it frequently but I have it for when I need it. For me it seems to be paint/pad dependent. If you are using a closed-cell foam pad try switching to an open-cell foam pad and it will usually solve the sticking issues.

I completely agree with you on the name changes. But like I said, it's been more than a year since they ditched OC 2.0 and replaced it Gloss-Coat. As a business owner, I don't buy the excuse that he's not had ample time to fix his advertising.

I'm I missing something,I get the whole advertisement deal thing.companies are making new coating everyday to cut throat one guy after another with all these coatings out there why is there such a loss from using opti coat, rather than using or advertising blackfire, bulletproof,Americana ,black label,or the other 50 coatings that just came out, screw them and move on.

I agree to just stop using Optimum. Either get certified in something, or stick with over the counter coatings. Yes you are behind in addressing this, but you are addressing it now. Bottom line- now you know, so don't promote what you don't do. Become certified or don't. But then act accordingly. I think it's that simple.

If you did happen to stockpile a discontinued product and you are still using and advertising accordingly, then you are fine- that would be poor marketing on the company who makes the product. Continue to do so until you run out of that product. But then change or you could find yourself having legal issues.

other companies try, you are right. they all want to be CarPro or OPT.

OPT bought it to the masses and it's made here, with the creator being very easily accessible. so, it has some cache. it's easier to sell something you like to use that people ask for vs. trying to sell them on something they never heard of.

he said at the time he updated the site in 2013, he was selling 2.0. and now he sells Gloss-Coat. i think he just read and inferred as opposed to judging.

very strange. i love that stuff. no dust, works forever, cuts depending on pad, finishes incredibly and is coating friendly. zero problem ever getting it off anything and have gone right from it to coating with nothing more than a yellow fellow misted with ONR. i even use it on my scale models.

if you had an issue with GPS, you should have called the manufacturer. i have had two items go bad from OPT since 2008 - two bottles of Poli-Seal and an old bottle of the original compound. i received replacement product for each time except the the smaller Poli-Seal because i didn't pursue it and it was almost done anyway. i don't like GPS, personally - i don't like anything that even has "glaze" in the name, haha, but, there are a lot of pros who use it for a specific set of circumstances and expectations.

hey, sometimes things just don't work out. i know there are restaurants around here that people love and i will never understand why.

Wow, that's pretty harsh, especially the kicker there at the end, that was a little uncalled for. As Rasky noted:

Why limit yourself to one brand? IMO no companies products excel in all areas so mix and match what works best! :props:

Optimum makes a whole lot of really good products, there's a few in there that are a little finicky or that I haven't really figured out yet (like the carpet cleaner), and sure, some of the name/product changes have been frustrating, but come on, plenty of other mfrs. do similar things, entire product ranges come and go at Meguiar's and no one accuses them of having a "brand identity crisis".

Optimum products are one of the best. ONR by itself blows 90 percent of competition out of the water

OP, get a clue buddy. You're not using Opti-coat, so why advertise it as that? On top of that, you're not even an authorized installer.

FWIW, I'm not a big fan of optimum products.

Holy cow, you're in Austin and selling OC 2.0 as Pro?? You must be the guy that got Anthony Orosco all riled up and got Dr. G to discontinue OC 2.0! Thanks.

chill , i don`t advertise any opticoat pro , my website has opticoat on info page since 2010 when 2.0 was available, and the site needs to be updated , that`s all
read the whole tread before you comment , easy as that.

Yeah, I did, did you notice where other people who are/were authorized Opti-Coat installers said that your website shouldn't say what it does when you're using 2.0? And you're close enough to Anthony to have indirectly caused the demise of 2.0. Again, thanks.

i like most products i have tried from optimum. the only product i have tried and would not recommend is opti-seal does not last long at all reload much better
