Noob already pwned by this forum....

just wanted to mention that I ended up buying the Meguiars D300 with the MF cutting pads. Reason being is some of the cars that ill be doing is REALLY bad... and it seemed from waht i have read this is pretty easy to use?

Do you have a DA to use the MF discs with? People here say they work better with a DA than on the Flex. You can do it, but keep the speeds lower, there should be a chart on here somewhere that has equivalent OPMs for Flex vs a typical DA

?? i cant use the MF discs on the Flex? or are you just saying a DA over the Flex... i unno to me the Flex is a DA, just one with more power/rotation.

Most people find the Microfiber pads with the D300 compound to be kind of "grabby" when doing correction work. I found the same thing, not a good buffing experience for a first timer.

Lots of mixed terminology and you'll get people that will argue over the specific meaning of a single word, that's how forums are but "generally speaking", tools like the Griot's, Meguiar's and Porter Cable are DA or Dual Action Polishers as the pad will rotate and oscillates at the same time.

The Flex 3401 is also a DA Polisher but instead of using a Free Floating Spindle Assembly, (I gave you this link correct?), it uses a forced rotation drive mechanism thus it offers more power for correction work.

:)

ooo kk. yah ive seen that information before. I was more worried about having to buy an adaptor plate or something =*(

So you are going to try the 6 inch MF cutting discs with the Flex?

btw, what was the title of your original post supposed to mean/say?

"Noob already pwned by this forum"?

yah gonna give the 6inch MF cutting discs a try, i hear the product is a little grabby? if its a bit too much then ill try new pads and do either mezerna or the 105/205 combo. Maybe something else. eventually ill probably try it all lol.

the title was just meaning that i have already gone off the far end was spending a butt load of money.... meaning I have pwned by all the information on this forum and just started buying everything. sorry if it was slightly confusing xD

so yah anything particularly missing? that I NEED?

BTW Laura after I try the Dodo SNH im gonna give the Wax you recommended after. ill probably be sick and tired and want something easy to put on =P

well don't know much about the Flex as I've never used one...

do you have an interior protectant like 303 Aerospace or Finish Kare Topcote? How about a rinseless product like ONR or DP Wash & Gloss for making clay lubes, QD's, water softener, etc

Then there's the lugnut brushes, daytonas, grit guards, Duragloss 901... I can keep going if you like :)

never seen the word pwned before -- thought it was a typo haha

Let me know how you like the Dodo; I've got some Supernatural (I call it the Dodo Deodorant because it's in a deodorant container and knowing PJ from Dodo Juice, I think he would just laugh at me calling it that :xyxthumbs:) that I like, but I'm lazy enough that anymore a paste wax has to be exceptional for me to want it over the spray. I do like Dodo products though - mainly because I like the attitude of the company (I know, sounds weird. It's one of many personal quirks.)

i will definitely lets you know laura how i like the Supernatural hybrid but honestly i dont have much to compare it to so I will probably just think its the greatest thing ever lol.

anyways something really annoying happened today. kind of upset with Auto Geek... well i had some gift cards on amazon so i ordered a couple of stuff from their amazon account as well as on their website. An order I had on the amazon account hadnt shipped for 2 days so I wanted to make sure the Pads I ordered wasnt on back order. They tell me over the phone that it shipped the DAY I ordered them. Well today I get a shipped email from amazon with a UPS tracking # telling me that it was actually mailed out the day that I called them...

next I ordered some stuff from auto geek yesterday, had that free shipping and some memorial day discount and some store credit so I load up on my stuff and I was told that all my stuff will be shipped out today(this was yesterday) and then today I get a shipping confirmation with the tracking number and voila... it actually shipped the day after...

I really hate it when vendors lie to you... this is actually a really big pet peeve of mine when it comes to ordering online. Reason? when i used to order parts for my 350z vendors will lie to you all the time... when you first order, they will tell you they have the part in stock and its shipping that day. You call them a week later whats going on? oh the part was defective so we had to reorder from the factory blah blah, 2 more weeks later and so on and so on until i dont get the part till like 3 months later. basically they are lying to you and not stocking parts and drop shipping.

What does this have to do with auto geek...? well they will lie to me about little things like when my stuff shipped, what is it to tell me they wont lie to me when something worse happens... i guess ill continue to use this forums but id rather not continue purchasing from someone when the first few times i order from them the first thing they do is lie to me. to some this might not seem like much but to me its just a warning sign to stay away. there are a million places online that sells stuff anyways so doesnt really matter. this completely ruined my weekend plan of detailing... since everything will be coming in a few days later than I expected... cool thing is i just found out there is a smaller backing plate for the flex and wanted to get the adaptor and a bunch of 5inch pads.. atleast i found this all out before putting in another order..

calm down, patience is a virtue.
and okay, one weekend of your summer that was planned for detailing didnt go as planned. it has happened to all of us by forces out of our control. I dont know how many times i've been washed out by rain when i had everything lined up and ready to be moved outside and start.

Autogeek is usually very good with customer service, and i dont think i have heard a serious complaint for the 2 years i have been on this forum that hasnt been resolved. They did not lie maliciously. any clue on how many packages they have to ship out every day?

so relax. :xyxthumbs:

WOW, only 13 posts and allot of aggression. If you have a complaint go directly to their Customer Service and see if they can help you sort things out.

Your first mistake was reading a few post here and going off and ordering something from some other source without much knowledge. Once you found that this didn't work you ordered additional equipment and supples that performed less that expected..

Is it a lie or something beyond someones control, or quite possibly inexperience on your part?

It's appears that you've been unhappy since purchasing the Flex and Chemical Guys package on Amazon. I think one solution is for you to purchase everything locally this way if you're unhappy you can return it and vent in person..

has nothing to do with being unhappy. i could care less about when it actually comes... how much money i spend... when it shipped... if I dont clean the car this weekend i clean it next weekend. I just dont like calling in and having them tell me to my face that it has already shipped a few days ago when it hadnt. all they had to say was oh, it hadnt gone out yet, and i would have just been like oh this sucks and thats the end of it. what they did is just blatantly lie to my face which i will avoid at all costs. why? opens the door for future bigger problems. what i should have done since the beginning? Detailers Domain is 20 minutes from me... i should have just stuck it out there, which is where im omw to right after i post this up.

and btw the flex and I being unhappy?? im actually quite happy with it, just realized the pads were a waste in a sense, but will be good for me to play around with, who knows maybe ill really like the chemical guys pads and ill end up buying more in the future. i just happened to try the incorrect combination with the meg's MF DA setup. im probably going to end up selling it, it arrived yesterday and its just sitting on my counter. heading over to detailers domain to pick up a bunch of pads and a full menzerna setup(power gloss, SIP, 85RD.. contemplating the sealant), and the 4 3/8 flex backing plate, uber pads and see how this works out for me. going to go mid-evil on my in-laws black BMW.... muhahahahhaha

****JUST FOR CLARIFICATION!!! AT THE BEGINNING OF THE THREAD WHEN I SAID THAT I WAS PWNED BY THIS FORUM... I JUST MEANT THAT YOU GUYS GOT ME HOOKED GOOD WITH ALL THE INFORMATION ON DETAILING AND I WAS GOING OFF THE FAR END ORDERING EVERYTHING. HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH MONEY SPENT OR BEING UNHAPPY WITH PRODUCT, I DIDNT HAVE ANYTHING AT THAT POINT****

I'm happy to hear that you are pleased with the detailing items you purchased. There's nothing more disheartening then to wait for something your purchased and then to have it be less or perform less than expected.

I reread the posts in this thread and it seems that everyone was trying to help you the best they could. The members on this forum are some of the finest and most helpful I've come across, this is the reason I like it here.

The Flex 3401 is in my opinion the finest variable speed dual action polisher available today. This polisher teamed up with the right pad and product combination will produce stunning results on just about any finish.

Knowledge and understanding of derailing products and equipment take some time and most of all allot of hands on practice.

This link contains articles written by Mike Phillips and has allot of great reading within. Take some time and become familiar with different options and techniques before you go out there.

With a nice one step all-in-one product you can really make the finish glow. These products are formulated with mild abrasives and cleaners that will remove minor swirls and bring the finish to a beautiful shine.

Some examples of One Step Products

  • Meguiar's D151
  • Klasse All In One
  • Prime Strong
One step products are great but in my opinion won't make the finish pop.

Although these are classified as one step adding a nice sealant like Klasse High Gloss Sealant Glaze

"Klasse High Gloss Sealant Glaze creates an elastic, non-chip, shrink-proof, heat and scratch resistant - protective seal against ultraviolet rays, salt water, acid rain and industrial pollutants for up to 12 months. Use this glaze on all paints with or without clear coats, glass, fiberglass, Plexiglass, plastics, metal surfaces, enamel, tiles, Formica and all non-porous surfaces. It is anti-static, non-abrasive and contains no ingredients harmful to paint, metal or plastic".

Some examples of sealants and waxes.

Sealants

  • Menzerna Power Lock Polymer Paint Sealant
  • Klasse High Gloss Sealant Glaze
  • Detailer’s Pro Series Poli-Coat Paint Sealant

Wax

  • Collinite 845
  • Pinnacle Liquid Souveran
  • Dodo Juice Supernatural

4 3/8 backing plates are now available and work well with 5 1/2" pads.

FLEX XC3401 Mini 4 3/8 Backing Plate, FLEX

Uber pads are very nice and will also work well.

pwned= just like saying owned, had one pulled over on you, beaten..taken advantage of...it seems to be a term that the younger folk seem to use, my kids 12 yr old twin boys say it all the time when they are playing video games.

If your Black Audi paint is anything like my Santorin Blue Pearl Audi paint, it will take a lot of aggressive compounding to get all the swirls out (I started in the same boat as you, Audi, terrible swirls, I had never polished before and got "pwned by the forum" I bought the Flex 3401 and tons of goodies to start with). I stepped up to 3M Super Duty (aka rocks in a bottle) as Menz power gloss wasn't "cutting it". Heavy compounding will leave your paint with a terrible haze, it's OK. It can be tricky trying to see "past the haze" to see if the actual swirls have been corrected, refining with a finer polish may be necessary. This is where the test spot is a must, so you can figure out how much you need to compound to get rid of the defects. IME with my Audi paint, once you get the compounding done (it is HELL), swirl/haze removal is a snap and finish polishing (and jeweling) is an absolute dream. I've found "hard paint" to be easy to finish but hard to correct, opposite with "soft paint" which will correct easily but is harder to finish out marring free.

As Laura's experience will tell you, keep your work area small and your pad clean (I like to use compressed air to clean pads on the fly). Work the polish through it's full cycle, especially with diminishing abrasive polishes. Stopping too early can leave excessive hazing behind.

Good luck OP :xyxthumbs:

I've had pretty good results with the old standbys 105/205

pwned= just like saying owned, had one pulled over on you, beaten..taken advantage of...it seems to be a term that the younger folk seem to use, my kids 12 yr old twin boys say it all the time when they are playing video games.

If I'm not mistaken someone explained to me the history of the word pwned. I've been told its from the online game ultima online. They would "own" someone and try to type it so fast they would mistype it as pwned since O and P are next to each other and it's become an online staple since then. Sorry probably more info than anyone cared about....

Thank you though for the information on the hardness of the Audi paint. I was going to detail my inlawz car but my wife's mini cooper s transmission crapped out and she made me take her for test drives for new cars all weekend.

I have the menzerna SIP super gloss and I ordered the 85rd on amazon... but I got Micro Finish with no model number and I can't locate wth it is online.... ANYONE KNOW WHAT MENZERNA MICRO FINISH IS?

I have the menzerna and both 105 and 205. I should get something else as well? I mean I will try what I have when I get started but if #### doesn't work out I would like options!!!
