OK Computer Guys

I bought a Dell XPS about a year ago. So far I had to replace the motherboard and hard drive(lost everything). I don't think I would buy a dell ever again. All customer service calls go to India, which is totally agravating. One guy erased my operating system while trying to fix things.

No issues with Dell for me and I have owned quite a few. For the best prices, check out Dell business. Get on their email list...great specials every week.

I have been looking for a new computer also. One thing I discovered by going to Intel's web site is there Dual Core processor is now discontinued. That kind of explains why there pricing looks like a good buy. The new Core 3, 5, and 7 are the latest processors. Check on Dell's web site for there 10 days of deals promotion or check out there ad in today's sunday paper. I have never owned a Dell computer. Don't have any feed back on there reliability or service. Right now I am leaning toward a 560 with a Intel Core 3 processor, 4 GB memory 350 GB hard drive, and a 21 !/2 inch HD monitor. Everyone has there own individual preference. Good Luck.

Imo you should not get a dell. Like loudog said, they are nothing but problems. My cousin bought a dell and the hard drive, memory failed at the same time. A friend bought hers and her laptop just crashed altogether. Never again will I deal with a dell.

I bought an IBM eServer 9 years ago and except for power outages, it's been running 24/7 for 9+ years. I think the server line is now Lenovo, but if the quality hasn't slipped...they are built like up-armored Humvee's LOL.

Mine has hot swappable hard drives and RAID. Overkill for household use, but I'll run it till it quits.

Dell keeps losing the consumer market due to their customer service.

I've got an HP tower for my wife with Win Vista and it's just so-so. Worst operating system I've ever seen. Will probably replace that one with a Mac as all she does is use it for email and occasional writing.

We have an office full of Dell desktops and servers, and not one part has failed on any of them over the last 2 years. That being said, I prefer to build my own home computers using recipes from ExtremeTech.com. If you want the best performance, think about getting a 4 core processor, either an Intel Core I5 or AMD Phenom II. I recently built a Core I5 based system on a Gigabyte motherboard with 4GB or memory, a Caviar Black drive, an ATI 5780 graphics card and Windows 7 professional. It's amazingly fast, and Windows 7 is a great operating system.

I have to agree with CieraSL gat a MAC!!! I switched about four years ago and my wife's Dell finally died last October and she made the switch. You can get Microsoft Office for the Mac and do every thing you can do with a pc. Unless you have some special need for a pc I would look in the Macs. One of the biggest reasons I made the switch initially was for the security I have never had a virus. Just take 10 min. and give apple a call and see if it would fit your needs. Anyway good luck buying a new computer always a confusing time.

+2 with getting a mac. my sisters has one and its amazing.

What about assembling a custom desktop? you can list the parts you need according the specs that satisfies you. I have assembled one back at 2006 and its still running strong without any problems.

Is this a good deal? My HP is about gone and I need a new one. Help please...
Dell - Inspiron Desktop with Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor - I560-4000NBK

There are pro's and con's. Mac vs PC. It all depends on your budget $$$. I looked at the Dell Inspiron Desktop, but opted for the Dell Vostro instead. You do not need to be in business to order one. A couple of other suggestions. What about a laptop ?? Also, if you are interested in Dell, you can go to their surplus site. Computer's that have been ordered and returned because of various things are returned and go here. Alot of times you can get some pretty good deals. As for the India calls, you can purchase their USA package, all calls are answered by staff you can understand.

MI Mike has a great point about laptops. Most laptops will do every thing the average person is going to do and the ability to take it with you is great. You can always plug in a full size keyboard if you need to do lots of typing. if I could only have one computer it would be a laptop.

While I do like the Mac's I juts have a hard time spending twice the price for the same performance. If money was no object I'd buy a Mac hads down.

My fiancee just bought a new Mac Book Pro 15" for $2000. Beautiful machine!

2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
4GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x2GB
320GB Serial ATA Drive @ 5400 rpm
NVIDIA GeForce 9400M + 9600M GT with 256MB

However
, A Dell cost a LOT less for the same or better components...

15" Studio $1024 as configured with the new i5!

Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium, 64bit, English

Black Chainlink

NEW 2010 Intel® Core™ i5-520M 2.40GHz (2.93Ghz Turbo Mode, 3M cache)

4GB Shared Dual Channel DDR3 at 1066MHz

320GB SATA Hard Drive (7200RPM)

1 Year Basic Service Plan

ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 4570, 512MB

Plus the Mac has a built in battery so your SOL if you can't plug it in.

I'm no PC wiz but for half the cost I'd rather take the risk of something going bad. I've had 2 Dell laptops now and the only issue was with my current XPS1330 which had a bad heat-sink on it after 2 years that was replaced at my home for free. I spent an hour on the phone with Dell before they could determine what the problem was. They ordered parts and had a tech sent to me.

Raskys right they are more money so that is a factor. I have an older Power Book G4 and it's battery is not built in, but I'm not sure about their new laptops. It dose come down to personal preference. I like the Macs because they just work for me I don't have to fight with it for it to do what I want it to.

Yeah her old Power Book had a removable battery but I think all the new ones are built in now. Not a big deal for me anyway since I rarely travel with mine.

Like I said, I LOVE her new one, just expensive is all. :dblthumb2:

Think about this... you buy your detailing products from AG or Walmart??? Turtle Wax or Fusion?

If you care as much about your computer as you do your detailing, then buying a Mac is a no brainer. If you already have a monitor and a keyboard and mouse, buy a Mac mini, plug in your monitor and keyboard and go. If you want something like an AIO, the iMac is a great machine. You don't have to buy the top of the line to keep the cost down.

my wife has had her mac for 15 years and does all book keeping for mine and hers bussiness faster than my 2 year old gateway lap top

Thanks guys for all the feedback but Apple is over my price range. I know it is a great computer. We have a dell laptop for about ten years old and have never had any problems with it. My HP Desktop is five years old and has been great until the end of last year and has been in the shop three times and they upgraded the memory. The last PC I got was an HP Laptop last year for my daughter. After about a month the keys started popping off and when I sent it back to HP they claimed it was abuse on the keyboard. The damn thing was never abused and I told them that and I will never buy another by an HP ever again.
Anyhoo the Dell I have posted; is it a good deal?
