What are the cons and pros of this set up compare to a cargo van set up?

The reason I ask is because I have always wonder what happens when you got an open trailer detail set up with your pressure washer, power generator, water pump, and maybe an air compressor in it and it starts raining. All that machinery can get mess up by getting wet am i correct?

What would be consider a good open trailer set up?

In response just to the open trailer in general. I used to operate a landscaping business utilizing an open trailer to carry all my equipment. It never failed that I would be traveling to a jobsite and pick up the shady characters following me then waiting when I got started to do the pass and grab. I ended up having to come up with a way to keep the trailer secured to the tow vehicle and each piece of equipment secured to another and the trailer. At times I felt as though it took me longer to lock and unlock that it did to do the job. Oh and they would post lookouts when I would be on the backside of property.

Sum it up....out of site is out of mind. My 2 cents

Definitely enclosed but for 15 grand for a car buff trailer, you could get a pretty nice van set up.

If you want to have a personal vehicle as well, with a van, you now have 2 car payments, 2 vehicle registrations, 2 vehicle insurance bills, double the gas bill and double the vehicle maintenance. CarBuffs builds every trailer specific for each customer and only uses top of the line commercial equipment.....bottom line....you get what you pay for!!!

Well thank guys for the information here but I really dont know what to tell you guys since I am having a problem here at home

What would a full rig run?!?!? Having it loaded with pressure washing system, water tank, filtration system, air compressor, generator, shelving made specific for detailing products, and ladder racks? + anything else I forgot....... just curious on the custom price for that - oh yeah - plus to completely wrap it?!?!!? Toss a price out there man - really curious.

Top of the line everything by the way.

If Im not mistaken.... a trailer is what - maybe 1500?

Top of the line everything else - maybe 4000 to 5000

so looking at doing it yourself for around at the very most maybe 6500 before a 2500 wrap...... so at the MOST, 9000 doing it yourself right.... sound about right?!??! But could probably do all this for way cheaper like 6000 I would imagine - or even 4000 if buying good used equipment. HMMMM , curious what this salesman would say?

I don't think there are any pros to having an open trailer except maybe the cost is cheaper.

I will be happy to answer every ones questions. Sorry for the delayed response, we have 4 systems in production right now so we are a bit busy. A custom built trailer for each customer with diamond plate floors and doors is $3800 OUR COST....a honda comercial grade pressure cleaner $1600 OUR COST....to wrap a trailer with 3M material that will have a 3 year warranty....$2500 OUR COST not to mention all the other equipment and misc items you receive. I can't speak for detailers running open trailer systems, or pulling the enclosed trailer.

But, I can speak as to why I went with a van. Main reason, equipment is protected and enclosed. Secondly, it's all together. No hooking, and unhooking a trailer up. I can just pull my van right into my shop at the end of the day and park it. Third, much easier to maneuver a van, rather than a trailer. Fourth, you take up less space. It's easier to park a van somewhere than to fit your truck, plus your enclosed trailer.

Those reasons alone were enough for me to go with the van. Plus, IMO you can get it all done cheaper in the long run with a van. I kinda went all out with my van...but you can get an inspectable van cheap.

I paid $1200 for my van, $1500 for body work, probably close to $2000 for equipment. Plus some other miscellaneous along the way. But, if you take out the body work, and not go so high end on the equipment (maybe used instead of brand new)...you could probably do it for around $3000. Will it be the most professional setup...probably not. Will it be functional...most likely. :xyxthumbs:

I agree. If you can the van option is the way to go. For me a trailer is the way to go. Way too many people around here are crooks, will take your stuff and not think twice about it if you turn your head for a second. I like the Idea of being able to just drop a trailer, put a lock on the tounge and call it good. Right now working out of the back of my truck, I have to load and unload which gets old fast after a long day.

I would love to wrap my trailer when I get one, but with all the criminal activity around here it would be stupid to for the area I'm in ATM. Just another guys 2 cents
