Opinions on using APC to clean leather??

Sounds just like tunnels washes using acid presoak followed by an alkaline soak to buffer the harshness on exterior surfaces...this is a very old school approach to effective cleaning. I have also personally considered it a corner cutting technique to produce a wow factor within a short period of time which makes me wonder if the effects of clearcoat damage and LSP removal within just one wash translates similarly to leather in that the acid followed by alkaline approach will make more maintenance needed because it removes the methods of protection auto manufacturers use?

What started out as a simple search asking if OPC was OK to clean leather (it is based on Dr. G's and Chris@Optimum's responses) turned into a huge discussion featuring some of the greatest minds in the industry.

With all of the information contained in this thread, I believe it should be stickied. This is a must read for anyone with questions on how to clean and maintain automotive leather.

Roger,

The red leather is still considered coated or finished leather? That's crazy how much of the color came off!

For your information, the product that caused the easy rub-off of the red pigment pH value reads 9.

How about this thread where the alkalinity turns the leather from gray to brown after about 5 months.

See another example of side effect when using alkaline products, without immediate neutralizing it thereafter, to return the leather pH chemistry integrity of 3 – 5 [6]; that snowball the adverse effect from turning the leather from gray to brown…

And this is powerful; 10’000’000 (ten millions) times alkaline over exposure; calculated from pH 6 to pH 13 in the power of 10.

I can't believe this thread has not been bumped since June of 2012! What a great resource! I sure learned more than I bargained for today.

Welcome

In terms of this thread, Optimum Power Clean will still do a good job as will almost any dedicated leather cleaner

Would Einzsett Blitz be a good cleaner to use on leather ?

What would be a good protectant ? Will 303 be fine ?

there are so many variables when cleaning leather,I'm not a fan of ever scrubbing leather,I know of a product that I use it is awesome it's intended for leather and vinyl ,u spray and wipe that's it no scrubbing at all and the leather can be trashed big time,I don't think I can mention here due to autogeek policy, you can't buy it anywhere and it's not for the average joe who wants to clean there leather.when I buy it I seperate the cleaner in 2 meaning in one bottle for serious trashed embeded nasty dirt, and the other for moderate dirt,I'm surprised with all the pros on here never mention this product, and best of all it's cheap .I always see these videos of guys using all these brushes and scrub pads ,and one guy even used a da on leather ,at the end of the day with all that scrubbing ,if you detail for a living you're really not getting compensated for the strain on you're body. And time is money I really wish I could mention this product and end these 50 threads on leather cleaning .

•I'd be quite interested in the name of such a
leather product to which you have alluded...
-But to what avail, if I can't buy it?
-Is the deal that: I must purchase it from you?

BTW:
Just the mere mentioning of products, (that are not
sold at AGO), has been done an innumerable
amount of times.
There's an example...(in this current thread):
http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/auto-detailing-101/95536-lexol-duragloss.html
No links to those products; or,
discussions thereof...is advised by AGO, though.

So what is the name of this miracle product? You can mention a name of a product, just no links and no full blown write up.

Wait a minute!!
You didn't hesitate to mention a non-AGO
product in the below posting...
I use 50 percent soap 50 percent water
never any problems

I use automagic wash n wax

the soap I use is 9.95 a gallon

if it's cheap and makes
my life easier why not .

So, IMHO:
You can no longer use the:
"I don't think I can mention here
due to autogeek policy"
...
as an excuse to not list your
above leather-care product.

C'mon...give it up!
Inquiring minds want to know... :)
