I've been looking into Opti-Coat, greatly considering getting it for myself, but also for my dad's 2006 Toyota Tacoma. The cab and hood of his truck has been having some bad CC failure, so it's in the process of getting repainted. I told him once the paint was fully cured, I'd help him out by giving it a decent detail, wash/clay/seal kind of deal. Then Opti-Coat popped into my mind. So far I know it's meant to be permanent and it won't wash off or wear away.

Does Opti-Coat require any special treatment when it comes to maintenance? I may get this stuff for my dad's birthday and then apply it myself. I figured since he's nearly 60, he's not very much into extensive detailing, lol. So a permanent coating on his truck would be really awesome. For myself, not really sure, because I like to experiment with different sealants, do the occasional polishing, glazing, etc.

No special maintenance requirements. Opticoat is some pretty tough stuff:

That's pretty awesome.

Can Opti-Coat be waxed/sealed at all?

You can but it will not last for very long. The properties in the coating are really great. If you're wanting that very slick just waxed feel then you'll be doing that a lot more often. I'd opt to a Spray Wax if so but it's not needed.

Thanks for the info.

Is Opti-Coat pretty user friendly? One my dad's track is back and the paint has cured (I'll probably give it a couple of months or so), I'm thinking all I will need to polish will bed the bed of the truck. Is the stuff easy to apply?

Just remember that it's not a typical protection product...meaning, it won't haze to tell you when to wipe and you are just wiping it on not rubbing it in.

Prime the applicator well enough to easily spread it across a section without thinning it too much. Then when 80-90% has flashed from a rainbow effect to clear, you can lightly wipe away the remaining excess before it dries as a blemish.

Hi Chris,

I'm looking into Opti-Coat 2.0 and was thinking of topping it off with a carnauba wax once it's cured? Why:
1. I've read reviews that OC isn't as slick
2. For added depth and slickness
3. ...cause I love the smell of good quality wax

What is your feedback on topping OC with wax? Would you recommend topping it off with CarPro Reload instead (as I've read some people will do). TIA.

Ive never understood those who said OC is not clisk....

i manem i never found any of my OC applications to be anything but slick to the touch...although, i dont touch it that often..touching the paint with my hands/fingers just doesnt make any sense to me.

However, if you feel like you MUST have something on top of OC, get some Optimum Instant Detailer and Gloss enhancer.

I also tested some Hydro on my wife's OC'd highlander, and man it looked awesome!

but it kind of defeats the properties of the OC IMO.

No maintenance is needed in my experience. Been opti-coated for a little over a year now.

The paint washes very easily; though I have never gone more than a month between washes.
