I think ReLoad is a better option than wax but I agree with your concept!

Excellent thought. I just watched the ReLoad vid from the product page in AG's store. Wow. Nice.

I wonder how that silica-based coating would fare on top of other types of coatings? Polymer, acrylic, whatever ...

It will electrostatically bond to any surface! Use sparingly and use a short nap MF to wipe off.
 
oc not worth the hassle . They say its a permant coating. But where are more and more people saying its failing or is not bonding. was going to do a full correction and OC on my father truck. i thing i will do with collinite 845 evey 4 mouths.

Errr... Did you read this thread? Maybe his suggestions would fix your issues also...

The OG didnt fail! I restored it with Iron X and a foam clay bar! I dont think 845 or any other sealant or wax could have kept that crap out of the clear! That OG survived 16 months of abuse and was still doing its job!
 
Jim, I agree with you that OG did a fine job keeping the surface protected. It did its job as a barrier and you've restored it. I constantly top my CQ with either AW, Permanon, ReLoad on occasion or FK425. I just got some UWW to try as well. I think it helps a lot.
BTW, a little birdie has told me that Optimum is very close to releasing their own version of IX. It will be a safer product to use as well from what I understand.
 
Very interesting. Sounds like the OC is maybe holding on to more contaminants than clear coat? ... but the good news is, it's on the OC and not your clear. It'd be interesting to know if topping the OC with a wax or something would have lessened the contaminant buildup...

It really seems that OG/OC is more permeable to contaminants than the OEM clear coat. This raises some questions:
- did Optimum already know this?
- is this the recomended way to fix it?
- is there something one can do to further harden OG/OC?
- what is the best topper to prevent this from happening?
The excelent news is that OG/OC endures all this and "ressurects" to give stellar results!
 
So the thing that might work is to maintain OC coated vehicles with the new IX Snow soap? This might be enought to keep the contaminates at bay and keep the car looking freshly coated? Just a thought.

Where exactly do you get this? The car appeared to have gone to some rough locations, and without having another car spending the same time at the same location, you can't really say whether or not OG did better than just unprotected paint. Heck, having it survive underneath all that iron contamination seems pretty impressive to me.

RICH, i AGREE COMPLETELY REGARDING A TOPPER, i USE EITHER ReLoad or Permanon and Ive NEVER had an issue. My son is a designer, piping mostly, and he goes places we dont want to go to!. When he gets home we recovver the finish. I have heard the little birdie too! He is working on an OC/OG topper that should prevent this issue. In the mean time, it is ReLOAD AND AN OCCASSIONAL Permanon shott for me!

IME, ReLoad is the Best value topper. Permanon is superb but costs >> $ more than ReLoad!
