Optimum Compounds & Polishes vs Meguiars & Menzerna

Never knew how good Optimum Compounds and Polishes worked! Definitely will have to try these out. I am pretty sick off all the dust M105 creates.

If the Optimum stuff has similar work times as Menzerna but easy wipe off and decent correction, they may find DA users liking them.

I really like the new Meg's Mf da system and Meg's 105, and thought they were great until I saw the clarity next to the new OPT Compound, I guess thats why when I applied Menzerna PO85rd before I really thought wow that made a big difference, but with this new compound I'm not sure Ill be using a finishing polish that often. Still have some gallons of stuff to go through before I buy a new gallon of compound but I can assure you it will be a gallon of the new formula!

Bunky if your used to using Menzerna PO85rd then you know it takes a bit to get it off the paint, nothing hard just more a slower process to remove the oils. I will say that you really wont need the new finish polish unless you have a finicky paint system, all I would buy is the compound and polish unless you know a head of time your paint system is a pain.

Nice review!!

That must have been some very soft paint. I say that because I can't believe the defect removal that 85rd and a black pad gave! Wow!

I told him if he ever needs a test car i will come up there lol(plan black car owner)

Optium 2 in some of those pics looked better than the leading comp. The simple fact of lack of dusting is a plus n my book

Thanks! and haha yea my eyes were O.O when I saw the defect removal for myself, I need to get a hold of a late model black vette and test again to really see some cutting ability differences seeing that paints like polishing a rock, something you might know something about :)

Thoughts: Speed of defect removal goes to meg’s, Dusting goes to OPT with none, Buffing cycle is really long with OPT and Clarity/Finishing down ability goes to OPT as well barely which is saying a lot seeing 105 is a great product, ease of removal goes to OPT but further thoughts later in review.

Nice comparison testing John, somehow I missed this when you first posted it.

I agree the new improved Optimum Compound II, Polish II and Finish work really well and are for the most part Bubba-proof no matter what pad or tool you use them with.

Plus, long buffing cycle, easy of wipe-off and clear, glossy results really show Dr. Ghodoussi's on top of his game.

I know behind the scenes most players in this game are trying to come out with a M105 Killer. If Dr. G can maybe introduce a heavy cut compound that finishes out like Compound II then he's going to give M105 a run for the money...

Dr.G really hit it out of the park with his new Compound II, if you’re looking for a new compound I’d say beyond a doubt give it a try and you won’t be disappointed. But here’s my further thoughts with this new compound, ease of removal, if you follow the directions and remove the product as soon as your done buffing it will be one of the easiest things you’ve ever removed off your paint, but wait 10-15 minutes and it’s a real challenge to get it off your paint with a dry MF, with a wet MF it comes right off but still needs to be noted as this was the only drawback I could find with this product. If you like to stick with one brand of products you won’t be disappointed with any of these new products but to be honest 90% of the vehicles on the road will only need the compound and polish with only real finicky paints needing the Finish Polish. IME this is true for all water based polishes I have tried and most polishes Ive used. G|Techniq P1 is even worse if you let it dry. Ive learned this the hard way. Very good review of my favorite polishes & compound.

I agree Mike, like most products the optimum line is a great tool, and honestly if you're new to polishing I think it's probably the best choice out there. Of course 105 is hard to beat if your in this to make money because of its price and speed.
 
Great review, just what I was looking for tonight. I'm going to try a bottle of OPT Polish II. I've read people are not noticing a difference between OPT compound ii and polish ii.

I'm interested if I could go ahead with a LSP after using OPT polish II or even compound. You mentioned that even the compound left the paint very clear. This would save me mucho time.

What I do is polish the whole car, then go panel by panel cleaning them off with griots prewax cleanser or carpro eraser and then pop on your lsp of choice. Polish II doesn't leave behind much so a damp microfiber is sufficient to remove anything left behind before applying your lsp, which is pretty awesome.
 
Sometimes they are hard to remove if you let them dry. I would wipe the panel off after polishing/compounding each time. The DAT versions could be left and removed with the following step, but these SMAT versions are hard to remove sometimes if not removed before drying. Well, not really hard...but more effort/pressure than I like to use on paint I just polished. Within a few minutes, they wipe off easily and quickly.
 
Opps I should've worded that a little different, I meant I polish a section at a time remove the polish, then go over the entire vehicle with something to remove what's left behind on the surface depending on the polish used.
 
The first time I polished my car with Optimum Polish II, my taping job was a little sloppy so I ended up with some residue on my rubber trim above the windshield and above one door. I actually didn't notice the residue until a couple weeks later and it came came off quite easily...with ONR, no less.
