Optimum Gloss-Coat is IN STOCK!

I don't know, all this is giving me a headache. It's like when I find a brand of underwear I like, and then they go and change everything, and you have to start all over again.
Don't always have to "start all over again".

My guess is that it's probably leaps/bounds above 2.0 at dirt release.

This product is going to be a tough sell until the furor dies down. We have what is essentially the same (or possibly inferior) product at a significant price increase.

Personally I think it was a bad move but at the end of the day it's their (OPT) business and their product. For my own use I had already jumped off the opticoat boat. Bang for the buck the Duragloss enviro-shield kit is working very well for me.

I dunno, I was saying somewhere around here that maybe Gloss-Coat is a better match to the enthusiast market than OC 2.0 was. I also am liking the DG product, once I tuned my application method. After I did so I was getting enough on the car, I found it to be a lot like OC 2.0 in application (i.e., harder than I thought it would be for a spray product). I actually have the DG on an adjacent panel to OC 2.0 on the same car and it's performing comparably--of course they haven't been on there long.

Perhaps gloss coat would be more appealing to the enthusiast market but the price is a hard sell (IMHO).

I'll admit that I learned a lot about coatings after using OC 2.0 and am a far better enthusiast detailer than before, I just cant bring myself to buy this product at this price when there are so many other options out there. They will need to find a good spin to make this sell.

Anddd there goes optimum...

Ha ha...that's a bit premature, Optimum has a lot of great products, and besides when someone ACTUALLY GETS TO USE Gloss-Coat, it may turn out to be the cat's meow, I mean, there hasn't been one actual user experience posted here, just a bunch of hooey and sour grapes.

I can't say I'm not disappointed that OC 2.0 which is a known quantity is gone, but I also can't say that Gloss-Coat isn't going to be worth the 50% higher price, and no one else (who hasn't used the product) can really say that, either. Besides, who knows, maybe after an introductory period the price may go down.

Considering that it won't require throwing away multiple applicators and towels after each use (like most glass/gloss coatings do), that will be a significant savings right there.

Also, you can make the point that Optimum is the only coating brand out there that is engineered by someone with credible, relevant industry experience (PHD and PPG background). A lot of the other products cannot make the same claim about their in-house technical expertise.

This is true but doesn't translate to the enthusiast detailer.

When I used OC 2.0 I tossed one microfiber towel and one applicator per vehicle. Not much of a loss there.

I respect Dr. G and the research that goes into his products, and until today the strong value they represented. His pedigree doesn't make the apparent price hike any more reasonable.

Having said all of that, once the product comes out it will have a chance to prove its worth. I can admit I was wrong if this new product brings something to the table that merits the substantial price increase over its predecessor.

I am so disappointed....

I guess I'm going with Duragloss for customers. This is just way too much for a single use.

I would like to add that I understand that this is business and I don't take it personally, but sometimes it just feels like the customer's wants fall short of what the company wants.

I've read of one over on autopia.o. And I think everyone is reading to much into this personally I have never been all that drawn to OC 2.0 except for maybe wheels, because of the lack of gloss and depth I have noted in it compared to other options. I am however more interested in the new product. We bash a coating that lasts 2 years and costs $60 but lots of us have spent $200 on boutique waxes that last weeks and need reapplication all the time.

If this coating beats out CQuartz in gloss, ease of application and at least keeps up in self cleaning they may have me as a customer. I think everyone is focusing on the negatives of losing an old faithful product when better newer things may just be right in front of them..

And OPT isn't going anywhere, I'm pretty sure they can survive on ONR alone. Nevermind products like opti lens, OPC, or Hyper Polish. So in your eyes they made a bad decision, maybe you will see the heir in your ways in the future or they will if such is the case..

Just my take, most people fight change it's nature.

As I noted somewhere here on the forum--I don't think they were ready for "official release", I think it was the unexpected backlash and leaking of pro detailer correspondence that caused a...er...premature release. And speaking of premature release, to get back to your point, I don't think the beta testers have been released from their NDA's.

OPT definitely stepped on some toes. I don't have a dog in this fight. I just don't see OPT being dethroned at this time.
Edited: I didn't think that far ahead concerning nda's.

You think they weren't ready, but mysteriously the new product is avail for sale online at AGO the same day if the announcement?

first of all, great post.

the part i quoted deserves a big thank you, lol. people are wacky! doesn't anyone remember the first time they washed a coated car? it's made life SO much easier. to me...that's worth what he's charging...especially considering it's a new, revised item!

imo HE did that for us. none of these Asian companies made that splash in the consumer market.

but i'm just an OPT fan boi, hahaha.

Did it ever occur to you that resellers like AG are part of the supply chain and actually know about product introductions like this ahead of time? And that they may have had Gloss-Coat in stock for some weeks waiting for their stock of OC 2.0 to be depleted and/or to be given the word from OPT that it was ok to introduce it? And that the premature release of info from the pro detail community caused a run on OC 2.0 and depleted the remaining AG inventory and, coupled with the discovery of the existence of OGC by the online community, they were therefore allowed to begin selling the stock that they already had?

This may be a surprise to you, but there are a lot of Optimum distributors, and it may take a while for OPT to make enough product to supply all of those distributors, so Gloss-Coat may have been in production for some time with shipments going out to the distributor base incrementally, with the stipulation that they not be able to advertise/sell the product until all of the distributors have been stocked.

Or it could be that I am always wrong and you are always right.

Thanks Jared ;). I think everyone is all in funk like they discontinued their favorite cologne, shaving gel, or underwear or something. When they find something else that suits their needs just as good if not better they will forget it even existed or remember making a huge deal over nothing..

I bet so. Even though the market is now saturated with similar coatings, lending a similar end product, OPT paint coatings are unique.

Sect....any theories on the fake lunar landing

Yes, I misspelled that to be funny. Like you are part of a sect

You seem to have an insiders view of this thing

Please tell us when the non-disclosure agreements are up and we can expect some reviews from detailers who got the product for free, are likely current authorized installers who might be influences by these factors when writing a review of the new stuff

Not sure how you can claim you are "Right" and I am "wrong" as everyone is guessing

My guess is it is related to the Lifetime Warranty Claim

Fun topic though
