Quick question - can Optimum spray wax be used as you are drying you car or is it best on a dry surface? I normally use hydro but am out but I do have a bottle of unused Optimum.

Thanks

OCW is not supposed to be a drying aid.

I find it works best and protects the longest when applied to a dry surface.

Yes, works great, use it every other or every time you dry and you dont have to worry about durability.

Last month I received a sample of this with an order. I tried it on my challenger (dry/clean)

and was really impressed with the result. Super slick with a deep shine. Made my bright silver

REALLY glossy! Like anyone else here, I keep my paint in great shape but, this was a noticeable

difference. Probably get some next order.

It shouldn't be diluted for best performance. Instant Detailer would be a better drying aid. But, if you make a single drying pass and the apply it with on residual water on the paint, it does fine without durability suffering.

I like to ONR, one drying pass, OCW, buff till dry and slick. This is a super fast way to wash and wax without 50 trips around the car.

:xyxthumbs: thanks for all the info, I will try it next weekend

Hey Chris, I would agree that OID makes for an excellent drying aide, but I also use it as an instant detailer. IME, OID doesn't leave the paint surface slick (tho very shinny) which is why I like to follow the the Opti Spray Wax.

I think I gave the wrong impression with my first reply, although I had no problems with OCW on wet paint I use it on damp paint after ONR initial wipe with a towel

Out of interest why is OCW not recommended for wet paint

OID (Optimum Instant Detailer & Gloss Enhancer) is primarily designed for quick detailing...but you can used it to amp up the gloss post wash or even as a waterless wash. I find it has excellent cleaning and glossing ability with plenty of protection against maring. I also find it quite slick...but it gets slicker and has more gloss over a few hours as the polymers cross link. OCW (Optimum Car Wax) has real carnuba wax in it, so the results are almost instant. When you dilute OCW by adding water or applying to a wet surface, the product becomes watered down and the protection/durability suffers because there will be less than "Optimum" amounts of active product in each spray.

I addressed the water issue because OCW is often compared on the forums to AquaWax, which is designed to be used on a wet car. They are similar in the ease of use and they both smell great, but that's about it. OCW is not a merely a booster product, but a true LSP that will last for months when used correctly and has patented UV inhibitors that work just like those added to your factory paint.

Sometimes I frighten myself with my stupid questions

I don't think that was a stupid question at all. If we read every post in every thread, we wouldn't get much else done besides reading the forum. I'm happy to answer, and re-answer questions. I never like it on some forums when the "post police" start pounding the newbs about using the search button. I subscribe to all the threads I post in, so even if I don't want to type it all out again I can share a link to where the answer was already given.

I don't know how I got it into my head that OCW was recommended as a drying aid, but this is the second time you've tried to knock it out of there, hopefully this time works. FWIW, I like to use AW dry, also.

Many years ago a friend introduced me to ONR. I thought is was a gimmick. He said if I didn't like it he would buy it off of me. After trying it, I buy it by the gallon. I used OSW for the first time today and this stuff is amazing.

I just finished my 32oz bottle of OID and currently using UWW+ at a QD dilution. I have to say I miss OID and I am surprised because I thought UWW+ would work better. Specificially, OID just feels like it picks up dirt better and the MF towel glides better across the surface. Looks like I'll be getting OID back in inventory. I'm kinda hoping it will be on BOGO soon.

:dblthumb2: OCC products...often imitated, never duplicated. 10-04 :dblthumb2:

Is this thread about a QD or a spray wax/
