I just took advantage of the sale and ordered the Flex 3401. I have a recently purchased GG6 that is still eligible for return (not purchased from AG). With the superior capabilities of the Flex, is there any good reason to keep the GG6? Is there anything that the GG6 is better at or SAFER FOR? I'm just a DIY guy, not a pro, so I don't see using either machine more than a handful of times a year. Thanks for any input!

BTW, I started by ordering a 6 pack of the 6.5" LC Hybrid pads, so that I don't have to switch backing plates yet. I went with 2 orange, 2 white, and 2 black. Hopefully that will be a good all around setup.

IMO, I would get the 2 7/8" Backing Plates for the GG6" and use that for the tight areas or for LSP/waxing.

I have my PC7424XP for that reason. But ever since I got the Flex PE8 rotary I have not used it that much. Additionally, the GG6 can be a back-up. As for the GG6 being better than the Flex? Simply put....NO

Get all the Lake Country Backing Plates for the Flex and the additional Flex BP.

As for your pad selection...not bad at all.

Yeah, trust me on this, but once you regulate your GG to a 4 inch bp or smaller, you won't want to return it.

It's worth it, just for not having to take off backing plates and stopping in the middle of a detail to do that.

Use your Flex on those large areas, and any curvy ones that are too small, use your GG.

Personally, I much prefer the 5" LC Hybrid pads for the Flex. I recommend biting the bullet and get the interchangeable kit to be able to use the 5" hybrids, and return the 6.5."
It's all preference though. Some guys might prefer the 6.5," but I'd guess they're in the minority.

Keep both? Well, that does save me from having to box it up and all....I'm so easily corrupted.

LMAO!! You will be happy that you have both. I prefer the 6.5" Hybrid Pads over the 5" as I can cover more area at a faster rate.

But do get the interchangeable Backing Plates for the Flex. Well worth it.

BTW, I do have the 5" Hybrid Pads as well and still have not used them because of the 6.5" Pads.

For beginners or if you are not familiar with the Flex...the 5" pad is the way to go.

Either way once you have tried the Flex you will never go back to the GG6 as your main DA. You have made an excellent choice!

:iagree:

I just called up and switched my order from the 6.5" pads to the LC backing plate system and the 5" hybrids in the same colors. This site costs me so much money.

Good Choice and you can always get the 6.5" Pads in the future. Either way you will see a huge difference in performance compared to the GG6

:props:

You just made the right move, in my book. I know it's tempting to "Not order too much," but you will not regret this decision. And, don't worry about the spending; it's only just begun.

Good call on both counts. You'll love the 5.5" hybrids on the Flex, and like others have said, relegate the GG to waxing, smaller areas, etc.

Soon you'll be looking at a Rupes, the Flex Kompact, and dare I say it...a rotary. :buffing::buffing:

Is the technique for using the Flex effectively any different than with the GG or PC? I'd think the forced rotation would make it a but easier. I've notice with the GG its fairly easy to stall the pad rotation if you aren't careful. Maybe I need to search for some good tutorial videos specific to the Flex.

Congrats! The detailing drug has a needle in your arm now, it only gets worst : ). Next sale will prove this again.....

I too have both and the Flex is a workhorse that can not be stopped. The GG polisher is lighter and some days an easier choice. Both have their own place and you be pleased with both. Each is different machine both great in it's own right. I promise you will not see the difference in a polished panel between the two polishers.

I've been using a GG6 as my main DA for years now. A customer a few days ago comes over to me and says - " hey i ordered an orbital polisher a few months ago, would you like to use it on my car?" I very politely said thank you, but i have my professional / commercial unit I use. He says "Ok, but it cost me $400, i think its a good one." Now you have my atterntion sir...

Here is what he shows me...

Ok, I can find it in my heart to try it out for you!! Im the MAN

I will be getting one VERY soon, and fitting my GG6 for 3-4" pads for tights area work. The 3401 is an amazing unit!!!

That statement concerns me. Why did I just spend $350 then?

You will not see a difference between the two, if used with the same pads, product, ect...

What you will see is the HUGE time savings with the Flex. I used one for the first time a few days ago, fastest exterior detail ever. Seriously, I saved an hour to get the same results.

Ah, OK. That makes sense.

Flex Powerhouse, can not stop pad rotation no matter the pad size on the machine, removes scratches very easy, big strong power machine.

GG reduce pad size and is more finesse takes longer, harder working the scratch area to remove scratch...Pad may stop rotating at times. Depends on pad and applied pressure.

Both are great machines and you will not be sorry. Both

Rock!
