Ordering DA Polisher intimidated newbie needs advice on pads and products

The Griots is as reliable as the PC. So that is not an issue. The kits do not save you money. You can use the kits listed as a base order everything you want or need.

I find that the Griots easier to use especially with the location of the on off switch with the easy off button. It is a lt harder to stop the griots compared to the pc with the pressure. There is nothing wrong with the PC. I prefer a stronger motor that will have less strain which will help make it last longer.

@junkman2008. The Griots is just as easy for a novice. I am a novice and found that the pc is good the Griots is just an option to give people. Porter Cable (Black and Decker) is not the same as they were.

Reliability is anecdotal however. I know and speak to many friends who use one for their professional details and they are now on their 3rd, 4th, 5th Griots polishers within a year or two. That's not to say that all GG polishers are bad. But the fact remains, that the Griots polisher is just a rebadged polisher from China. Many countries in the world have the same Griots polisher except under a different name/sticker.

Sure a lifetime warranty against defect is great, but it does no good to the person running a business to have to keep sending it in for a new one. Now Black & Decker may have bought Porter Cable but they still operate independent of the parent company. They design and manufacture their tools.

So to sum up, we'll never get the stats on polisher reliability from the companies and can only go on what we see or do ourselves.

Very good points.

I find that very hard to believe

Actually Griot's themselves have stated that their polishers are to be used by do it yourself home use and not professional use because of all the returns. They can deny warranty if it is overused.

50 different paint colors in the nooks and crannies?

anyone who owns 50 cars probably isn't detailing their own.

Good thing I don't mess with a lot of single stage paints :dblthumb2:

And how would someone determine that?

During the phone conversation. They might accuse you of user error. You might retort with: "I'm a professional, I know how to use the polisher properly, I've been doing this for over 10 years. I do 20 cars a week..."
