OVERATED: Which Products In Your Opinion?

The whole Optimum line.

We will see how giddy everyone is after a good 2-4 year Opti Coat test.

Really? Everything I have used from Optimum has done just what it says and is offered at a better price then other products I've used.

now you're just trolling.

I don't troll. Period. Lighten up a bit!

and with the recent turn of detailing forums, "Z" isn't talked too much about. That's pretty much the opposite of overrated :P

I think that you would have to literally have the word "Zaino" banned from every detailing site that I visit for at least 2 years before I would personally get over all the exaggerated hype that brand previously experienced on the 'net.

I like Zaino too (their sealant anyway). But man, talk about over hyped!

Exactly.

That's not to say that I love all of their products. I'm not impressed with the Opti Bond I recently tried, but that is more of a personal preference regarding appearance. It actually works great.

Do you really think ONR is overated?

Yes, their most overated product IMO.

Sorry, I just dont think its the second coming.

You simply cannot ONR a muddy F-250 or clean the frame and undercarriage of one either with ONR. You need a pressure washer.

Best results are achieved with the old hose and traditional bucket. If anything, a pressure washer is needed in some cases. Plus I really love my foam gun.

Even when the car is only normal street driven dirty , how are you cleaning tires?

Spraying on the cleaner, agitating with the ONR, then what do you use to rinse?

No detailer ( a good one at least) can simply only use ONR to wash vehicles.

Sorry, but I hate ONR.

Worst detailing product ever to be made.

Overrated != poor product. I do agree that Optimum is pretty wildly over rated. They are good products (most of them anyway) just loved a little too rampantly.

They do have a couple good products.

But they are just way too overated IMO.

Plus I think there are a couple Optimum shills around here.

Are you implying that you have witnessed a 2-4 year test?

Seriously? Why would you even make a statement like that? Was it advertised somewhere that it is safe to use on a heavily soiled vehicle? No. Pretty certain it is advertised it's intended use is on lightly soiled vehicles.

If you consider Autopia an advetisement, then yes.

Took the words from my mouth...

So there was an advertisement on Autopia that you could use ONR on a muddy truck? Was this an ad by Optimum?

Exactly! ONR does what it is marketed to do for a great price. If I told you I hated submarines because I can't fly in them would it make any sense?

Well, if ONR can't clean a "muddy F-250 or clean the frame and undercarriage" clearly this product SUCKS!!!

The whole Optimum line.

hahahahaha, ok.

hmm, a line where virtually everything is easy to use and works as promised. perfect candidate for the overrated s-s-st-stamp.

i encountered optimum based on research and surprise, surprise, several years later i still use almost everything he makes, exclusively. that didn't happen by mistake, because it's the cool thing to do or because i was urged, it happened because the stuff is ideal.

then again, anything that is successful will have its detractors (or

) no matter what.

BTW, side note: can someone correct the spelling of overrated in the title of this thread? anyone who deals with spelling on a daily basis dies a little bit on the inside when this thread pops up.

Sorry, I just think Optimum is overrated.

We agree to disagree.

No need to jump down my throat.

Didnt know some folks here were so sensitive about their beloved Optimum.

Took the words from my mouth...

True. It wasn't advertised to be a miracle all around product. :)

:iagree: ... and :haha:

@Grizzly & Mindflux - I agree they are overrated. But that doesn't necessarily mean that their products are not topnotch. IME, ONR is a must have product, it's versatile, cheap and effective.

For me it's anything made by Adams especially the VRT. I have mixed feelings about the Diamondite Plastic Armor too. Not sure it really provides "better" protection over Plexus...

The first thing I said that Overrated does not mean it's a bad product. I like Optimum Car Wash and I kind of like ONR.. and I liked OPP until my gallon separated. From what I've read once it's separated it's pretty much "spoiled" from a discussion I had with Bunky about it after he confirmed his went bad with Dr. G.

Actually, no.

Overrated means to rate, assess or estimate too highly. It DOESN'T mean poor.

There's as much of that ^^^ going on with this site and their "preferred house" brand stuff as there is with ANY other site that favors one product over the other. It's all about pushing product & with an inexperienced detailing crowd it's very easy to do.

No offense meant to anyone.

!= means not (in geek language).

So, Overrated != Poor Product (aka, Overrated does not mean it's bad).

:argue:

I agree with the rest of what you said. "House" brands are totally MEH to me. Regardless of the vendor.

I'm glad you're in RR cause S. Austin wouldn't be big enough .......

I'll remember to drop by next time I'm over in that part of town. I detail for a couple that lives right over by Mansfield Dam.
