Been lurking on this forum for a while and have learned quite bit so thank you to everyone! In any case, I am having some trouble with the BMW Alpine White paint.
Car is a 2014 BMW 535i Alpine White which has light swirls throughout and some waterspots. I pressure washed it and then handwashed it with Meguiar's Gold Class. It was then decontaminated with Iron X, and clayed with Mother's and Meguiar's Clay.
I'm using GG6 DA with 6" backing plate, Lake Country CCS pads, and the Pinnacle XMT swirl remover system. I started off on a test spot with the LC Orange cutting pad, XMT #2, and setting of 5 on the GG6 DA. I used medium pressure and yes I made sure the backing plate was spinning. After the first round, it looked like it didn't even touch the scratches or swirls, except added finer swirls. I then changed to the XMT #4, and the results were even worse but I figured it was going to improve as I go back down to the finer XMT polishing solutions. I went over it with XMT #2 and an green polishing pad with setting of 4, and swirls did improve but still not good enough yet. I then changed to XMT #1 and a black pad with setting of 3, but there are still very fine swirls (see image).
I tried switching to red pad with Meguiar's Ultimate Poish. It was slightly better but still not perfect.
I've used the XMT swirl remover and LC CCS pads on a few cars in the past, and found them to be excellent.
So my questions are: Am I just screwing up on this BMW alpine White? Are there better polishing compound I should be looking at such as menzerna or Meguiar's 105/205? Is worth changing to the 5" backing plate and appropriate sized pads?
Any help would be appreciated! I'm pretty much at my wits at this point.:buffing:
