I had a customer with a silver metallic paint Mercedes ask me to touch up over 30 chips on his hood. He bought the touch up paint from Mercedes. I warned him before that there were strong chances that the paint would not match and he said it was ok and told me to proceed

I finished the job...leveled the blobs, polish and wax. The paint touch up is darker. Customer wasn't mad but said it was a butched job (I didn't comment since I've warned him) and preferred the car without the touch up on it

He is now asking for a repaint of the hood. I didn't suggest to remove the touch up paint yet since I prefer to discuss those issues face to face. I didn't charge him for the job even if he told me to proceed since I should of do a test spot but he was anxious to get rid of the car.

Any tips from here?

Tricky situation. Is he asking you to re-paint the hood yourself? Or does he want you to pay for a body shop to re-paint?

If you're comfortable with painting, I would offer to re-paint the hood for him. Of course charge him for materials because paint and clear are going to be expensive. I have painted a few bumpers (plastic) which I heard are trickier than metal due to the flex additive. I just bought plastic drop cloths, and made a faux painting booth. Then hung the panels by strong from the ceiling and went at it.

YouTube can also be an excellent resource.

That's the exact reason why I stay clear of "chip repair" Unless it's friends or family, I won't touch it. They ALWAYS complain after we spend hours and hours trying to make it look perfect. No matter how much you set expectations, they think we are going to make it look brand new. Sorry you are dealing with this, totally stinks.

I seriously hope he's not asking you to repaint the hood! If he's not happy with it just remove it.

Did you have him sign anything before proceeding with the chip repair?
