Hello all, my family might be in the market for a new car soon and I am trying to sway them towards the 2013 Ford Fusion. I really dont know what would be better for us, the hybrid or 2.0 l ecoboost. we do some highway driving and some street driving

thoughts?

How long do you tend to keep a car? Hybrids are notorious for resale values falling off the cliff after four-five years. Probably stating the obvious, but justifying a hybrid on fuel savings alone often falls very short, so it may be worth factoring in your position on environmental and social issues.

FWIW, I've gone down this road a few times, even if only in an academic sense. I tend to land in a new (or, at least, new-to-me) vehicle every two-three years or so, and I've been tempted by a few hybrids. Good luck...

Im pretty much an anti hybrid guy.... if you need a sedan and great fuel economy passat tdi....

I am set on the fusion, because its reasonably priced and it looks worth it. I think the 2.0 l titanium or sel would be good, but are hybrids really worth it, I mean, the thing can hit 62mph in electric mode !!!

They are expensive and demanding for maintnence. There battery's are currently not recyclable... and id be hard pressed if its actually getting that kind of milage.... my wife had me drive the optima hybrid... while getting decent 38mpg in city with cruze control and milking the gas on the highway 70mph down here we bairly got 28...
Having a golf tdi that gets 37 in town and 44 highway no way would I consider a hybrid unless it really blew the doors off that....
All im sayigng is if u do a lot of highway do some highway driving on your test drive to make sure....
The fuzion is a sharp looking car... I wish I read more about the awd before picking up the optima or my wife would be in the fuzion.

I work at a Toyota dealer, home of the hybrid in my opinion, and I think hybrid cars are just damn goofy. You can hardly hear them running, lol. People claim to get 50 mpg in their Prius, but I was just fine getting 30 mpg in Mazda3 and my Scion tC will soon do the same... or should.

I've been in a Prius once and that was to move it a few feet. I had to sit in it for a few minutes in order to figure out how the hell to get it going, lol. I'm almost 26, had to take time to figure it out, yet there are tons of old people who drive these cars and look at you funny when you hand them a standard key to a loaner car. "What's this key for??"

My input may be random here, maybe not even make any sense, but I'm just a regular ol' gas lovin' car guy. I want decent mileage, but I want some sort of power. I'm satisfied with the power my tC has, all 180 horses, and that thing moves pretty swiftly without any sort of effort.

are hybrids really worth it
Someday, if the World lasts long enough, I may be able to wean myself off of dino-fuel completely...

Until then, I'll operate my gasoline powered vehicles and watch from the sidelines as each year the
latest technological advances are put to test in another bureaucratic layer of hybrid this, hybrid that.

-Is our Country and its leaders really ready to abandon the: 'Oil Interests'?

We are being told that: "Daily choices do make a difference".
IMHO: That mantra should apply to the proselytizers as well.

FWIW...Here are a couple more of my personal opinions regarding hybrids:

1.)
Fuel Economy This link will allow a comparison of/between: hybrids vs. conventional and even diesel powered vehicles.

2.)
"We have not inherited the Earth from our fathers.
We are borrowing it from our children".
~Native American Saying

3.)
(Again): "Daily choices do make a difference". (What’s ours going to be?)

If you get the hybrid, Remember to save the money you save on gas to replace the $4,000-5,000 battery when it dies in three to four years.

The Ford eco boost engines are darn impressive.

I like the idea of the hybrid, and I really like the look of the new Ford Fusion. It looks like an Aston Martin from the front. The back looks just ok. Supposedly 100 mpg. Unless there is something wrong with the Fusion reliability wise, I think it is a nice car to have, considering looks and mileage.

I would prefer a Tesla model S if I could afford it.

My sister just got a new fusion titanium with the ecoboost engine. I absolutely love that car. I would love to get one but I can't see myself spending that much on a car to drive as much as I do (30,000 miles a year). Might just get a used focus hatchback to replace my current car.

Wait for the diesel Mazda6 to be released.

I wouldn't get anything from Mazda. Their corporate reps have horrible attitudes and Mazda in general doesn't stand behind their vehicles. When I had my Mazda3, it started rusting from within on all 4 doors, I reported it when the vehicle was still in warranty and Mazda dicked around until my car was past the warranty, then they said nothing could be done. I started doing Google searches and I found many other people with Mazda3's that had similar rust issues and they complained that Mazda did nothing or that they had to threaten them with lawyers and lawsuits to get anything done. That car was my pride and joy, more or less, but also a nightmare. It was my first Mazda and ultimately my last. I wouldn't take another chance getting anything from Mazda.

On that note, I think I will go with the 2.0l ecoboost titanium or the sel. 2.0l boost is impressive as it is a v4 with turbo and direct injection, can hit 0-60 in 6.6 seconds I think

Personally, the upfront pricing of hybrids are a little steep. The new Ford C-Max Hybrid costs $27,000! Who is willing to pay that for a compact car. I used to work at a Honda dealership and the hybrid Accord cut a lot of corners to reduce the weight of the vehicle. You got no spare tire, no floor mats, and the hood felt like plastic.

Floor mats are considered an accessory these days. When I got my Scion tC, the price for carpet mats were $299 on the sticker. I look up parts at my job all day and those same floor mats list for $99, I think. I even told the salesman when I was getting the car, so they gave me $500 more for my trade-in to offset the price of the mats. And to top it all off, the carpet mats weren't even the correct ones! I got free all-weather mats in exchange, lol.

Shame on your dealership for lying to you, that's a sad hat trick to pull on anyone, let alone their employee.

And to top it all off, the carpet mats weren't even the correct ones!
Sounds about right.

Yay, happy ending! :face_palm:
