Hey guys,
So I attached a picture of my bumper and it's all plastic.. I'm wondering what's the best way to work on it and what's a good product to use on it? Can i just use regular swirl remover products and buff it? I don't want to use any kind of dressing products. Thanks for any advice!

The same product as you would use on the car ,use on the bumpers.

:iagree: Also, just don't get over excited and get them too warm. Plastic doesn't like a lot of heat.

Thanks for the advice guys.. There's a little better shot of it and a before and after of my detail job.. Can you guys see the plastic strips between the front and back window? Its super faded out and looks HORRIBLE. What products are out there for this? Again I don't want to use a dressing, I just want to restore some color to it.

The clear fails on them, it seems to be related to hand prints from closing the door. I'm not sure if you can polish off what's left of the clear and get it back to black and then just maintain it to keep it from fading. Or are yours just dull?

I don't think the clear is failing in them, I'd have to imspect them a little better but I'm pretty sure they r just super dull

I would be surprised if your B-Pillars were clear coated

Most seem to be solid black plastic and polish out really well

Unfortunately, they are very soft and tend to mar very easily

Meguiar's Ultimate Polish on any machine or even by hand will yield pleasing results

Be sure to post Before & After photos

AGOatemywallet.. Can u explain why they r called B-pillars? And I will try some Meguiars Ultimate Polish on them.

If you'll accept an answer from me, the pillars alongside the windshield are "A-pillars", then going towards the back of the car, the next set (which would be between the front and back doors for a sedan) are "B-pillars", and the ones alongside the back window are "C-pillars". It's just industry terminology, not an alphabet test.

I tried for 5 minutes to insert a Wikipedia link but I guess the forum software wants to defeat that. There is a good article there under Pillar (Car).

C'mon Kyle, I always qualify my statements unless I'm sure I know what I'm talking about:

This is the only one I've run into, Kyle does a lot more cars than I do, I just putter, all I can tell you is on the car that the OP is showing, there is some sort of clearcoat on there, because as you can see it cracks and fails.

I will get a close up picture on my B-pillars (thanks for educating me AGOatemywallet) and see if it has clear coat. I'm not sure that it does.

If the clear is intact, I'm not sure from a picture whether anyone will be able to tell if it's clear, SS, or plastic. What year is your car? The pictures I posted are from a 2005.

The pillar covers are coated with what GM terms a "UV Coating". Buick was replacing them under warranty years ago for coating failure. Can't tell in the picture, but my '07 has the same condition:

I've been polishing them with Meguiar's UC on an orange pad and they look respectable - for a while. It's obvious the plastic needs some type of protection, as it's not very UV resistant on its own. I'm debating what path to take once I finally get to do my spring cleanup. I'll be wet sanding to feather the edges of any remaining coating, then polishing them back to a glossy state. After that, I'll 1)Coat 'em with Optimum and see if it holds up, 2)Clear 'em with Dupli-color, or 3)have 'em all vinyl wrapped.
