Apparently It's the oil that causes the reaction.

I wish I would have washed it off with Optimum Paint Prep...

I'm not exactly sure what you're talking about, but beware the oil (or even dead plants) can remain active for years, some say up to 5 years. Meaning if you got some of the oil on a tool, and put it away, that years from now you could pick up that tool and get a rash.

And yes, IPA (in your paint prep) is good for removing it.

I have used a good poison ivy wash for your body, but the name escapes me right now. And it does not really spread like everyone thinks. You are retouching the oil with different parts of your body and your skin has different sensitivities to it. It will show up immediately on soft skin areas like the underside of your arms, but then not show up on the tougher more callous skin parts until later making it look like it is spreading.

Probably won't work at this point, but good for future encounters.

Everything was covered but my forearms. Got some on my neck and clavicle area.

Feels like a bunch of mosquito bites.

I think it is called 'Tecnu', or something close to that.

Yeah, once you've got the rash, that's it. I had a tree with a number of vines growing up it, so I researched quite thoroughly before I attacked it. I think you need to wash the oil off within 20-30 minutes, but you don't get the rash for 8 hours or something...so it's easy to spread around before you know you have it.

I've had some pretty bad cases too. I've had it all over my face and neck once. Had to get a steroid shot that time. It was driving me crazy. I got it pretty bad in the groin area before too.

The process right now is bentonite clay on the arms, let dry. Wash off. Witch hazel wipe, and coat with colloidal silver gel..

My better half takes good care of me. In all honesty, the witch hazel feels the best.

If you burn it poison ivy will also irritate your lungs. Ask me how I know...

I was never allergic to it at all. Then one day in my late 30's.............. Pow.

Legs, thighs, back side. Worst week+ of my life. Now I'm ALWAYS checking for that evil weed whenever I'm near any overgrowth.

Man. I hate poison ivy. I get it so bad. Never got it till around high school. I had to go in the hospital two years ago for it. It got infected and into my blood. Docs and nurses were in awe over it. Here’s one pic. I won’t post the bad ones. Had it all over so bad. Still can’t figure out where I got it that time.

That looks painful, and like it must have itched like crazy.

What did you take to clear that up?
