Poli-seal, Opti-Seal and OCW performance

+1 for DG products and colinites... try a paint cleaning with 601+501 followed with 601+105 then colinite's 915 for sexy shiney and durable through winter! I use this for all winter preps and it's a durability you can actually FEEL on the paint.... yeah it may havea littel plastc look to it but white and silver absolutley pop with this.

4:1 for the 501 or 105 : 601 ratio.... buff the first step in with a couple passes then let haze and remove... wait 1 - 2 hors between 501 and 105 and 105 and 915 the other 2 steps are apply.. haze... remove

Hmm, now I have to look at Collinite 476 over Klasse Sealant Glaze....

I do wish some independent lab tested them all...

A few words of advice:

1. I switched to half-decaf a long time ago.

2. No one notices those swirls except you, everyone else thinks your car looks great.

3. It's only new for like a minute and a half, especially when it wasn't new to begin with.

4. As we used to say over at another forum, process > product. It's not so much about what brands you use but how you use them. Technique is more important than the products.

5. My winter LSP's are generally Collinite 476 or Meguiar's #16. I've used Collinite 845 on cars that aren't outside all the time. That's here in NJ where the roads usually look like the Bonneville Salt Flats all winter.

PS You don't have swirls in your wax.

:D

This is one of the best posts I've read in a long time! :xyxthumbs:

Thanks for the vote of confidence on the advice rendered here :dunno:

Yeah, I know, it's not that you don't believe us...it's just that you don't believe us...

I was thinking the same thing.

Lots of repeated spinning of wheels in this thread.

This really should be an absolutely bulletproof combination, those two products should layer over each-other quite well. They can both be quite difficult to use though. Just a warning.

I'm afraid you're going to have to back that up with a certified test report. Please include pictures in the report, as well. :surrender:

Well, I had picked the Klasse AIO and Klasse Sealant together, and I was saying that for the last number of reponses, but now you guys made me change my mind to the Collinite 476; and Zliegen, I didn't mean Collinite on top of Klasse, I meant CHOOSE Collinite over Klasse.

Ah, just take everything we say with a grain of salt, we all hate 476 we're just trying to get you interested so we can sell our tins to you...er, trade! Trade our tins to you.

I'll trade your Collinite for some Poli-Seal, Opti-Seal and OCW which may otherwise be collecting dust here. And of course, why should I believe you, unless you've used both products I was looking at (Klasse and say Collinite) and have a comparison. Hats off to the guy that taped a grid on his RV and tested a ton of products.

I'm confused. Aren't 501 & 105 the same type of product - Cleaner, polish, and sealant. What is purpose of using 105 after 501

I don't often use any of these as a standalone LSP. Poli Seal makes a great one-step, but I still usually top it with something...and Opti Seal / OCW make great "refreshers" to use monthly over an existing LSP in my opinion.

On really neglected cars I reach for 501 it has a stronger cleaning action then 105 on brand new finishes I go straight to 105. The goal is not correction with this its just deep cleaning the paint and laying down rock solid protection for winter.

This trio is something recommended to me by a trusted guy and I can only report excellent results. I have 10 - 12 cars set up with 501+601 105+601 then collinites 915 or 845. I think I like 915 topper better. give 1 hour - 2 hour cure time in between steps. 105 totes higher durability claims so I always put that down.

Neither have any abrasive action and the guys at brothers research swear that the 501 is not removed by the 105 step when 601 is added leaving you 2 layers of durable sealant topped with a great wax.

A word of warning don't leave these guys on your paint for to long... remove once it hazes or its gonna take a ton of elbow grease.

Ok, I've decided to go with the Collinite 476, I could apply it by itself or maybe over the Klasse twins, but then the Klasse sealer would eventually be hard to remove. So I guess by itself is the easiest. BTW, can I just use IPA by itself to strip the opti-seal and OCW off, or do I have to clay as well?

That's been my experience as well. I've been a Meg's guy for the last couple of years and have been pleased with the results overall. As an "enthusiast" and I was running out of product and I added the orbital to my routine, I tried the Optimum line and I've been completely pleased with everything in their product line. May also be associated with the fact that the product line is simple (right now). The Meg's line can be a little daunting. Optimum plus Collinite 845 has my attention right now. We'll see how it does in MO winter this year.

Akimel:

I think what you say makes sense. I've read the reviews saying that Optiseal "migrates" if applied over carnuba. First, I don't know how I would verify this even if it does. Intuitively, it makes sense to apply sealer first and layer carnuba after the fact. Sacrifice the carnuba to the elements hoping the sealer does what its supposed to do, "seal". I've decided to use a two step approach to this "sacrifice the carnuba" process. Use two coats of collinite 845 and top every wash with the Optimum spray wax after wash. Not sure how that will work out but I'll see this winter in STL. In the spring I'll strip it off and build the base and coats for a pleasant summer.
