Polish caused white speckles in black paint!?

I've noticed the same issue on a different (but similarly dark-colored) car with different polish. (In this case was menzerna super intensive polish, or super finish 4000). Unfortunately, I started touching up paint chips with touch up paint before noticing something was in them. (D'oh!) At least I caught the problem before touching up *all* the chips in the hood.

I'm pretty sure I got the residue out of the divots by using either a toothbrush or detailing brush with some sort of appropriate cleaning solution. (I can't remember if that would have been car wash solution, or paint-safe diluted all-purpose cleaner).

I'm pretty sure I also first tried like you did, a quick IPA wipedown with microfiber towel, (and found that didn't work - apparently more agitation down into the divots was necessary.)
 
Those are likely depressions and chips on the paint from road rash/driving. The reason they are worse on the hood/bonnet is because that (along with the front bumper) is the area that receives the most damage as you motor down the road.

Some compound may be captured in the depressions, and some chips may just be high lighted from polishing. In either case, if you want to try to remove them, try applying more compound over the area and then wiping off immediately. The solvent carrier in the compound will emulsify any solids and hopefully pull them up.

However it is very common for this to happen. Often times these marks were already there but our shielded from our eyes as the scratches and swirl marks take up most of our attention.
 
What are you using to dilute gasoline?
 
Tap water I guess, ill spray it on so they amalgamate together.
 
Water and gasoline will not mix.

Try mineral spirits instead (straight).
 
I would not use gasoline...there are automotive safe solvents that can be used. Prep all is one such brand.
 
Well if the UC uses naptha it must be fairly paint safe. Seems ok when i drip it when I'm fuelling too. That car paint is rock hard, its not an oil painting.

Agreed. Do not use gas on paint.

Why not go down to the local paint shop and pick up a product used in the painting industry to remove waxes from the surface prior to painting. Ask for a wax and grease remover.
 
I would do a spot test with zippo fluid (which is mainly naphtha).

I'm a big fan of it, I use it to remove all sorts of stuff, and, based on my previous experiences, quite safe on clearcoats.

Lot safer than gasoline.
 
Ok Update:

I tried putting on more polish and immediately wiping it off. This reduced the speckle by roughly half, but it had returned just as bad the next day.

I then tried rubbing with microfibre + gasoline and both wet and dry clay bar.

The speckle persists as bad as ever! FYI the gasoline did not damage the paint, but took a decent amount of detergent to fully remove.
 
I have seen the under side of black painted vehicles were light colored like that it's just stone chips you need a paint of those areas. Something heavy with black dies some polishes and waxes are like this may help some.
 
This my thinking, ok rock chips, I use Poorboys Black hole, Then apply my sealant/or wax of your choice.

A repaint of the panel is the only correct fix.

Why not just use DuPont prep sol. It removes everything and 100% clear coat safe
 
+1 for rock chips,

I have seen cases compound removing touch up paint that hadn't been applied properly and thats my guess.

also I tried ultimate compound on bmw jet black and you will have to follow up with polish to remove haze.
