Polishing Chrome

Anyone have any suggestions on how to polish gas shocks on a 12 inch lifted Ford truck as well as the rear differential casing and the front transfer casing
 
I saw a member on here used a sander to sand away the discoloration and grime on his exhaust pipes, then polished them and they looked great. Probably would have to do something similar
 
I would hold off on a sander. If the parts are chrome you will sand it off. Chrome is very hard but can be polished. You likely need metal polishing wheels and compounds to fix. Caswell has some good vids and tetorials on their website. Nevr Dull might get rid of the stains, but can't tell without pictures.

They were stainless steel which can be sanded.Chrome will scratch by just looking at it.Detail spray or cleaner wax would be two of the least aggressive approaches.

Does any one have a take on White Diamond Chrome Polish? Also is Mothers Power Ball a good add to my artillery of tools for those small chrome polishing jobs?
 
Mothers makes a yellow power ball just for metal. They have both cone and ball I believe.

I found the Billet Metal Polish worked better with these as less slinging of product. Also don't need a ton of speed as Billet is a hand polish.

I have done lots of Stainless Steel experimenting, but always finish with buffing wheels and compunds for metal.

Our yellow 05142 PowerBall Mini MD is an aggressive item used for scratch and defect removal on uncoated alloys. I would not use it on chrome. It's made to work with our 05150 PowerMetal Scratch Removing Polish. AutoGeek stocks both of these items.

The aggressive tool is only available as a mini - not a cone or full sized POwerBall.
 
Don't forget Collinite Metal Wax. This will also work well in this application!
