I use an Edge 2000 blue pad for this. I wish the colors were indicative of a particular level of cut across all pads, but it isn't. In the end it just depends on the type of paint, severity of oxidation, and other conditions that are unique to your project. Generally if you are just cleaning the paint then I would use a pad one level above the pad you would apply a wax with and that should do the trick.
Typically I work on 2010's or newer...my own plus a few family members & friends for kicks. Nothing too crazy in the paint. Run of the mill swirls, towell marks, etc. Not really trying to get them 100% show car perfect.
