Possible clear coat burn

Hey Guys here is the test i did today to see if i burnt through clearcoat after researching on how to do this I took some U.C on blue microfibre towel. picture (1). I then spread the U.C in and around defect picture (2) worked it in for about 2 minutes inspected only U.C on towel. I then turned the towel over to clean side worked a little more for 2 minutes and then buffed off. picture (3). There was no white on either side of towel. does that mean I did not burn the clearcoat?. what should I try next?.
a fellow member suggested to try a APC, I did that with OPC and did a panel wipe with carpro eraser to no effect. Perhaps I should leave it to a professional detailer to look at within my area. I am afraid to buff the area anymore in case of more damage done any suggestions?.

If nothing came up, then chances are it's not burned through. It maybe extreme hazing and some residue left over. Maybe a light pass of M205 with a finishing pad would clear it up. Never had that problem but just thinking of what may help.

What model is this 2012 Honda and what is the full actual name of the White paint (White Tafetta by any chance)?

yes the colour is taffetta white and it is a 2012 honda accord exl v6 hfp

If your going to be using a 4" pad I would slow the speed a little and lighten the pressure when using any kind of compound. As others have mentioned on honda paint a good polish should be all that is required.

I purchased the vehicle brand new and no has not been repainted.

i'm just putting it out there because i've owned two cars that i found out were re-painted in some way prior to arrival at the dealership.

one was painted at port. apparently it experienced some damage on a ship during transport. the entire driver side and hood.

the other was painted somewhere between a receiving yard and the dealer. the suspicion was that the truck delivery driver damaged the car and took it somewhere for repair before dropping it off. it had massive amounts of body filler. brand new Honda.

i'm not saying this relative to this situation or your car, but i'm just saying that because you bought a car new doesn't mean that it hasn't had paint work. there is A LOT of undeclared port paint work going on and nobody knows because 1. they don't care to look for the signs and 2. by law they aren't required to discuss it unless it's over a certain value number or percentage, i forget which.

Were you able to fight it?

completely. i was totally satisfied in both cases and was made whole. honestly i never would have known about the Honda one if the car didn't exhibit some pretty obvious signs, because the paint work itself was on par with the rest of the Honda paint. perfect match, similar quality. a spec or two of dirt but that was Honda at that time anyway.

when it started to lose adhesion with moveable bubbles under it...i knew something was up, haha.

Lol and that's good to hear. You'd think you'd be safe if the car was bought "new" but guess not.

this^^

when I go down to 4" pads, I use a setting 1-1.5 less than what I use with 5.5" pads. So if I am compounding on 5.5, I would drop down to 4-4.5 with the 4". Same with polishing. A lower speed will also cause you to apply less pressure to make the pad keeps its rotation.

I'm in the US. You are in Canada.

Tafetta White is a Honda single-stage paint i.e. no clearcoat. I confirmed this a year ago with Honda USA when I called them on my friends car.

Maybe call Honda Canada and talk to someone in TS. Your local dealer may have given you a wrong answer. If no cc then your DA and UC combo took a little too much white paint off making it look dull or hazy or grayish.

Highly doubt you burned through.

Still very hard to see in the pics, though.

OP were your pads showing paint color (white)?

I just got back from honda body shop at dealer in my area showed him the defect told him what happened. He asked me if I told anybody else if I was trying to buff a scratch out and i replied no. He said i may have gone through but did not give me a yes or no and also said i should wait because honda has been known for weak paint with chips and defects may eventually call for a recall but he did not give me a specific time for recall.
