Possible Spring 2014 Chicagoland Detail Day?

Here's my idea if we get a car to work on:

-we do a good wash on it

-each panel is clayed/speedy prep toweling

-everyone does paint correction on one panel with their choice of product, hood, roof and trunk can be broke down into 2 sections.

-once the paint correction is all done and all the dust/fling is wiped down we can each apply our choice of LSP.

Pull the car outside for a "real world" inspection.

What do you guys think?

Not a bad idea!
I may have a car for us to work on. My Niece has a Toyota Corolla that is pretty trashed and would be a challenge for us to restore. I can see if she is game for the meet once we nail down a date.

I can try getting a "neglected car" as well..

As to my contribution; I will be donating my Dewalt Rotary to someone who needs it most. (if it still works, haven't used it for a year, but it's been in climate controlled environment).

Thanks Merc and Genesis!

Donating a machine,WOW! How could we give that away thoough, whomever had the first ticket would take that, LOL! Maybe a true noob shows up and has no machine and they'd get it, that would be really cool. This meet is gaining steam, hope all the noobs to the site show up, as well as the cool and clean DD's too!

Yeah and when its this cold you've gotta have either the defroster or heater/defroster or the windows frost up, well atleast they do in my work van, damn Transit has no real insulation.

I'm trying to stay as positive as I can and here it is, 40 days till spring and February is a short month!

Good deal, can you get some pics of it? I'm sure between all of us we can make it look great!

I'm really looking forward to this event.

Is anyone interested in having it catered? Nothing fancy -- something like Portillos or Jimmy Johns.

We could raise money from raffle tickets or donations.

What we did last time was collected money from everyone and ordered up pizza, breadsticks and pop but JJ's or Portillo's sounds good but because I'm not familar with the area of Woodstock don't know where the nearest Portillo's is but we'll work something out for sure, I'm a foodie!

Here are some pics from last year, when I tried to clean it up for here. The paint was in such a poor state (swirls, scratches, etc) that you could hardly tell that it was metallic black! We only got to spend a few hours in it, so it still needs a lot if work.

No real shots of the damage, but trust me, this will be a challenge!

Portillos is probably 20ish minutes down Rt. 14. It's in Crystal Lake off of 14.

Not sure if I can make it or not yet; depends on the date....but if I'm able, then I can easily get pretty much any car/truck/SUV if needed to work on and I can also easily get body panels that we don't have to worry about damaging or anything like that.

I would love to make it.

Merc, thanks for the pics and it looks exactly what we need and I'm sure she'll appreciate what we can do for it! I'm sure that after this winter its going to need a complete make over too!

Now with the potential for the amount of people coming we probably could have another car but before I get into that I should also say that this detail day is a no pressure event. You wanna come to hang out and meet some fellow geeks, cool, you wanna come by and see how something works, great and if you wanna get involved into the detailing of the supplied car, even better, whatever you wanna do is what its all about, especially after this winter, we ALL deserve this day of detailing bliss!!

As far as Portillo's goes, well, I love them as they're my favorite beef place in Chicagoland but to make it easier though, pizza is probably best as we get some general pizzas and people can chip in and them when it shows up just go over there and have at it, just to keep it simple.

Keep the ideas coming guys and BTW I also have a full bottle of DG #111 to add to what I'm donating to the door prizes too, the event is turning into a good one for sure!

Regarding the food - there's a Rosati's less than ten minutes away. If we go this route, we can either order off the menu or use their catering service.

Rosati's Pizza - Store Location

Just thought I'd throw that out as an option

Thanks for the heads up Jeff, how's it been going?

Its probably a little bit of work but for you guyslooking to attend we have a list a couple pages back, so if you could, copy and paste your name to the list so we've got an idea as to how many people are showing up, thank you.

Things are coming together and don't forget that once we pic the date I'll send Forrest from Mothers a message with the link to our thread and hopefully they'll send a couple items, I see they've got a new line called "M", sounds interesting.

I'm up for sending in products to play with. i just need a date and an address o send them to.
