My wife has been cleaning out closets and drawers, and found a pack of *really* old photos.

This was my 1962 MGA 1600 Mk II.

When I bought it, it was a wreck. Price tag $200. I was 16 years old.

Holes in the rear fenders that you could stick your arm into (and out at the bottom). But, then again, a whole new fender from England only cost me $33, including shipping.

I fixed it, overhauled the engine, transmission and differential. Replaced the twin 6V batteries (positive ground). Did a lot of welding to replace the floor pans, etc. I repainted it in my parents' garage.

Turned out pretty good. I think it got a few coats of Classic Car Wax. Looks a little dull. Polishing by hand.

Parents wouldn't let me drive it to college (Purdue), so it got sold for $1200. Wonder what it would be worth today.

Don't have a pic handy, but my first wheels were my Dad's '64 Oldsmobile Delta 88 - aka "the Tank".

And greetings from a fellow Boilermaker! :xyxthumbs:

Not exactly the same car... but same year, model and color

I spent years searching high and low for that b&w photo of my 327 powered 1972 Vega GT.

I had different wheels...I miss this car, I still look for one to purchase

This 1964 Pontiac Bonneville was purchased new by my Dad...he gave it to me when I graduated high school. This was the best car ever bolted together by anyone, anywhere. Completely reliable, great fuel economy (389 4-barrel and got 25 mpg at a steady 75mph). I cared for and drove this car for years...through college, etc. Eventually I was run off the road by someone failing to stop for a posted stop sign. The car was never the same again. I ended up selling it in the early '90s to a guy who only wanted the engine. Even then, the plastic seat covers my Dad installed when he bought the car were still there and the upholstery under it still perfect.

Of all the cars I've owned, this is the one I would want back the most.

Heres mine.
Nice Type 3, is it a Squareback or a Fastback? I can't quite tell from the picture. My first 6 cars (that's right, 6, they all kinda just started showing up ) were aircooled VWs. 4 Karmann Ghias (very first car was a '71 Saturn Yellow KG 'Vert), a '67 Type 3 Squareback with 44k original miles, and a '74 Beetle. I miss them all, I had quite the collection going, luckily they didn't take up too much spaceIm the MAN

So fricken jealous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know I am extremely lucky. She is the main reason I got so into detailing. To tell you how much I love my car in our last newspaper all the seniors get "Mostly likely to go something". Mine was most likely to find a way to legally marry his car. I was proud. :dblthumb2:

Id be surprised if half the people on here know what it is

72' Plymouth Duster 340, one heck of a motor that small block 340 was. I still miss it :(

1939 Chev Business Coupe. Paid (if I remember right) $50.

Didn't have it for long, busted a valve spring...valve hit the piston...OPPS!

1988 Pontiac Grand Am. bought brand new. This is not a pic of my actual car but this is pretty close. I didn't have pin stripes or rear luggage rack on trunk.

I'll never forget how upset I made the sales guy. Even after I told him I didn't want the undercoat he still included it and did all the paperwork/loan, etc. When I caught it I threatened to walk out, and made him remove the item. Only changed the payment by a few bucks but it was just the fact he did it after I told him "no".

My very first car was a '72 Mercury Capri given to me from my parents. I did a little body work, fixed up and sold it to buy my dream car, photos attached, 1969 Camaro. I spent 3 years completly rebuilding and customizing it as shown in the photos. I think I went through about 4 cars while working on it. I can say my Dad was pissed as it was in garage for about 1 year before he kicked me out.
I really miss my Camaro, I put a lot of time and love into that car. I can say it was washed and waxed every weekend and if it was dirty fro night before it got washed again before going out next night.

Sorry for picture quality, not very good cameras back then.
