Prep for Sale Pt. 1 -- Undercarriage

Are you serious? The Cobalt was junk compared to the Cruze.... the new model looks better, drives better, and is FAR more comfortable and roomy inside. You couldn't pay me to drive a Cobalt -- every time I had one as a rental I was running my knees into the dash!

Yes I'm fully serious! I hate the cruise. Over here the GM arm that sells the cruise is Holden, and I don't really like any of the imported rebadged Holden models (Captiva, Cruise, Epica, etc). My favorite would be the Commodore, which is a local car manufactured in this neck of the woods, which I believe was sold for a short time in the US as the Pontiac G8. Except over here we have far more variants, from the base V6 models (same engine as the V6 Camaro) to the top of the range HSV models (I love the 2011 GTS!) and some ute and station wagon variants too. Honestly, looking at a cruise is like looking at a plastic bottle, and driving one isn't much better. It is rather spacious for it's size though, and the fit and finish are quite good, but for a car guy, it's a car without passion or soul.

The SV6 (V6) version (very common as a rental car):

Get back to me after you've actually been inside of and driven a Cruze. Until then you're jumping to ridiculous conclusions.

I HAVE been a passenger inside a Cruze. The Cobalt is my personal preferecne. If you like the Cruze better, I respect your opinion and hope that you can respect mine.

Dude I've driven many cruises! For a rental car, I'd rather have a Corolla!!!

:iagree:

I wouldn't even care if I had the Corolla with the faulty gas pedal...I'd rather drive that than a glorified Daewoo!

Looks good under there. What products did you use specifically on the rear suspension beam? Those things are hard to keep looking clean

I used a cheap tire dressing on that beam. I'm not sure how well it will hold up but I guess we'll see :xyxthumbs:

First....

AWESOME EXTREME MAKEOVER!

I love these shots...

So many of the posts on all detailing discussion forums revolves around the paint... nothing wrong with that as that's what most people look at... but results you achieved are nothing short of amazing!

Second...

PLEASE don't take Jordan's thread off-topic. If you have issues with a particular make and model of car.... then start your own thread about it and then I'll move all the off topic posts to that thread. This is about an undercarriage detail not a discussion about your personal likes and dislikes about his car. Sheesh....

Nice work Jordan!
:)

Nice work Jordan!

Thank you for the kind words Mike :)

I agree, undercarriages are one of my favorite items to view before and after results. That's why I took the extra time to merge some of the pictures together for a better sense of the before and after :props:

what did you use to rinse off the undercarriage?

A water hose tipped with one of these:

Single Brass Connector Shut Off Valve

The valve actually gives you several different spray patterns/volumes of water. You can use very little water (like what would come out of a spray bottle) all the way up to full flow or some moderate pressure in-between.

However, one note to mention is that I did spray all electrical connectors with the Rem-Oil pictured (similar to WD-40) before spraying the undercarriage down to avoid screwing them up.

Just a precaution that may not be necessary as it gets wet all the time

Oops sorry Mike, and especially sorry Jordan, as it's your thread :nomore:

That looks awesome. :xyxthumbs: I don't think even dealers bother touching the undercarriage of their cars. You did an excellent job, and you'll be able to sell the car for just a little bit more ;)

If I were you though, I'd sell the other Cobalt and keep the SS as a fun daily driver :props:

Wow! probably the cleanest driver cobalt undercarriage out there!
Haha, maybe so. Thanks!

No problem, I don't mind some friendly debate :xyxthumbs:

I doubt dealers care enough to do so. But yes, ideally that would be nice but all I do now is commute with no time for "fun" drives. Now, in a few years, that's a different story :hotrod2:

Really great write up. Looks excellent. This is on my list to do to my Impreza. Maybe one of these days the weather here will warm up! ;)

Thanks Eric!

You will likely be astonished with the results. Hopefully you have some ramps so you're not pulling a Mission Impossible like I was!

This will actually keep the underbody more rust free than spraying some junk undercoating on it. With no grease accumulated there is no place for salt and moisture (not that in GA there is much salt on the roads ;)) to dwell for very long. Further, I will add that once this clean and properly dressed, keeping it this way is quick and easy-er.

Great job, Jordan! Welcome to the hard-core-cleaning-club!

Thanks, Jacob!

I was hoping this would help in preventing any chance of rust :xyxthumbs:

Awesome job Jordon. Love those 50/50 merged shots!!! When is part two coming?
