Preparing for swirl correction?

More great advice! Thanks! In regards to #3, I have an air compressor at the ready to clean it. I plan to take a lot of pics on the outside and inside (if it ever warms up and doesn't plan to rain for a day or two!!
Blow the pad out after every section pass.

:wow:Your pad will love you long time...lol

Hey Matt,
Another thing is to take your time to prep by taping off trouble areas. You can have a flawless paint finish, but if you have polish in the door/fenders gaps or on plastics/rubbers your hard work will KINDA be in vain. When your done with your correction and there's no signs of polishes/waxes left behind it'll scream quality! So again take your time prepping...

Great advice! And funny joke!!!!! Im the MAN

I actually meant after every section(not section pass)!

I figured that. That would take forever at every section pass!!

I got my first box today and it was the Megs DA MF system!! I love Fedex. Now I'm waiting for the AG order with the GG to use the Megs and the rest of the items. I hate UPS!!

Don't be hating on UPS! They have done me right. I think the whole shipping argument depends on your region. Have you done you before photos while you have been waiting for your shipments?

I actually use to work at UPS...I really don't hate them, Fedex just comes earlier thats all. I was being stupid :dblthumb2:

I tried the before photos but car is too dirty to get any decent pics other than just showing dirt. I will for sure get befores because I also want to see the difference. I need it to warm up and not rain before I can do any exterior work......still in the 30's here

That's cool Matt. I was messing with you about UPS. I know how it is. I had really bad experiences with Fedex when/where I lived in FL, that's why I said I think it is a regional thing. UPS and Fedex are about even here. But, I think Fedex has the upper hand here in VB because the have more shipping/warehouse locations; one is about two miles from my house, so maybe I should started getting more shipments through them to see if the standup to being quicker.:) I just get more things shipped by UPS mostly because of AG, and sometimes ebay stuff. Did you get your polisher yet!?..:buffing:

No worries ;). I got the GG but didn't get to use it. Had to run errands then go to work. Hopefully tomorrow otherwise it won't be until after next weekend :(

So I gave it a try on the hood of the car. I used the GG at speed 5. I thought I used the right pressure. I used the Meguiars DA MF system (both steps). When I was done I noticed much smaller swirling. It looks better but what did I do wrong? HELP

Do not use speed 5, meguiars recommends no more than speed 4. At speed 5, youre leaving behind micromarring. With the griots being so powerful, you can even use speed 3.5. Use speed 3.75, I think you'll have better results.

Edit: did u use speed 5 with the finishing wax too?

No I used speed 3

And I think thats what I have is micromaring

Nope its original paint. I'm sealing it and waxing it now for the weekend. It's gonna have to be a project for a different weekend now. I'll try that next time. Do you think maybe I was pressing too hard or not enough? Or is it just the speed? I did 5-6 section passes for compound and 4 for the finish.

I use firm pressure with the compound. With the finishing wax just light pressure and faster arm speed. Do a test spot and experiment until you find a technique that works for you.

I am using speed 3.75 with enough pressure to slow the backing plate down to about 1 turn per second. If you havent done it, mark the backing plate with a single mark on the side of it. You can then see how much rotation you are getting. I do 3 section passes with firm pressure and slow arm movement then 2 with medium pressure and a little quicker.

ARe you priming the pad? Using enough polish?

Sometimes compooundig will leave a littl emarring. Following up with the finishing polish should eliminate it though.

Ok Thanks!

I have the mark on the pad. I "think" I'm priming the pad and using enough polish. I make 3 lines like jail bars and then on the outside edge all the way around the circle. How many section passes do you do with the finishing compound?

Ok Thanks!

I prime mine like they do on the meguiars online video. 5 large peas, run it on the paint a few seconds, then fill in the parts that did not turn pink.
Then I add 3 peas for each buffing cycle after that. I clean the pad with air after 3 cycles. I tried my pad brush and the bug sponge. They both do a good job, but, sseem to tear out more fibers from the pad. I have not tried my pad washer yet.

Wth the finish polish, I have been doing 2 medium and 2 light section passes. Honestly, most of the time the compound finishes nice enough that the finishing isnt always needed. Now that is on hard factory paint. I have not tried it on any repaints yet.

I liked the air method also. Really cleans nicely! I think this whole thing will be a HUGE trial and error and learn as I go thing! All this GREAT advice will really help. I all ready see a few things I did wrong and/or need to improve on! Thanks everyone. I have some pics of before and after, however, I took the afters after I put the Klasse High Gloss on so it's a bit better looking than it was right after I completed. I'm going to load them up soon.

Cant wait to see the pics. I have been using foam pads for about 11-12 casual years. So I had some experience to begin with. I thought the MF system was very easy to pick up and nearly fool proof. Slow arm speed. dont over work the polish. Keep the pad clean. Enjoy the results.
