Pretreatment on Lower Panels Help!

I also use P21s taw, and it works well on anything that's not tar. I use it at full strength, and let it sit for a couple minutes, but be sure to not let it dry on the surface.

Haha dude, I specifically mentioned that I don't want to use tarminator or meg's body solvent.

Is there a specific solvent that you have in mind that doesn't just run off or evaporate in 10 seconds? :props:
Megs Body Solvent is useless IME! Brown Royal is the BOMB!

How do you like the cg bug bugger? Will it remove tar like they claim?

I dilute it 1:1 - works great. Melts away most tar... There are times I have to bust out the plastic razor blades though. I have used just about everything listed here and I am thoroughly pleased with the CG product - both from a performance and economic standpoint. YMMV.

I only wash my car..... but I use optimum power clean 5:1 or 10:1 take it to a car wash spry opc insert $1.50 in machine and use High pressure water to clean it and dry it off with ONR. Works great and I never have to touch the car until I dry it.

I think I could possibly be seeing a trend of products that are composed of limonene. I realized I'm currently using an aerosol product, with limonene, to remove gum and gunk from carpets.

I love how it works, I just hate that's it's aerosol. I will be looking into many of the products that everybody listed. I've already noticed that many, mostly likely have limonene in them.

I think I'll start a new thread about d-limonene and see where that goes.

I know you said no cheap OTC products but (and of course there's a but) how about Goo Gone??? A little goes a long way.

I'll admit that I've used it. It does work well, but I don't think it really serves the purpose of pretreating the inner lip of the wheel wells, lower body panels and front end.

I'd probably end up using half a bottle for every car.

Resurrecting an old thread, but I was wondering if the OP ever settled on an economical product to pretreat lower panels and areas with stuck on tar and grime. Nothing more frustrating that finding road tar, bugs, sap & grime still stuck on the paint after a thorough wash and scrub.

Looking for something powerful enough that can be sprayed on tar, bugs etc. and then followed up with a normal wash routine and everything be removed without killing plastic trim/finishes.

OP did not want tarminator due to cost
Brown royal seems to be well reviewed, but will it harm plastic?

Full strength degreasers don't seem to be strong enough for old caked on tar (goo gone, WD40, simple green krud kutter). Too much scrubbing.

May have to look into wheel and tire cleaners to do the job!

When it comes to tar on lower panels no apc more than likely won't remove it.For bugs and grime pretreat with megs d101 super cheap and super effective.

There are many d limonenne products you can get in a non aerosol, but I can't mention it on here and my pm box is full right now.

Thanks for the suggestions, but I've got plenty of APC already. Looking for one product that will kill the tar as well. Is the browns royal or meguiars non-acid wheel cleaner too much?

Brown royal is a non etching and was designed to wash box trucks without removing the paint.very nice product but messy.
