I had a problem with road salt on my mats. I used the following process to get the road salt out.
Stiff brush and agitate to get the salt loose.
Vacuum with my shop vacuum.
Stiff brush again to get additional salt loose.
Vacuum again.
Spray some Folex on the remaining salt and blot up as I spray product.
Vacuum again
Carpet extract and shop vacuum again. Seems to remove salt and stains. I try not to introduce liquid until the last possible moment.
If salt is really heavy i will put some baking soda on the area and agitate with the stiff brush. The baking soda will assist in the PH balance and neutralize the salt.(don't know if it does but have been told by others it does when I was younger). The brush needs to be stiff. The kind that you would use on bathroom tile.
I put the weather tech in my vehicles and now I have no salt issue. Just rinse and go.
If all else fails I would offer to the customer to order weather tech floor mats to put in the vehicle. The weather tech would go in from late fall to early spring. Possible another profit source if you are willing to order for the customer.
