Products stored in Garage

Good Day All:

As my newbie collection of AutoGeek supplies grow with wax's, cleaners, detailers ect ect I was wondering if those who live in a Cold Climate like Chicago store their products in the house to protect from freezing? If so, I need to start making some room indoors cuz winter will be here before you know and I have to plan!

Yes, during the winter I move all my detailing products inside although my garage is heated.

I'm not going to use them during the winter anyway and I figure why take a chance. Just in case I leave the door up accidentally or it's up too long when I'm shoveling snow.
 
I store all polishes, sealants, wax and clay in a closet inside the house
 
Move 'em inside during winter. Most of the products we use should not be allowed to freeze.
 
My stuff stays in the garage 24/7/365 and I've never had any problems with product going bad.... but my garage never gets below about 40*F.
 
I live in Ohio and all my products come into the house for Winter.
 
Hi all,

Well, I'm in Montreal (here, winter gets pretty cold, - 13 F would be a normal day of winter) and my stuff stays in the garage (heated to about 59 F) and it is all working perfectly.

But I still enjoy winter and the snow. Just bad for the cars...
 
I would advise that any product which comes in contact with the finish be stored where the ambient temperature is 40F or above.

Your detailing products represent a significant investment and investing 30 minutes or so moving them where there's no danger of freezing is a wise decision.

Yeah but you're garage is pretty f'en amazing looking. Mine isn't heated or cooled so I store all my products but pads inside the house.
 
Michigan, too hot in the garage in the summer, too cold in the winter. Everything is kept in the basement.
 
Here in Los Angeles it never gets really hot or cold. But during the summer, in a closed garage the temperature can get up to 140 degrees. So I keep all my waxes, sealants, and finishes in the house. The only thing I leave in the garage cabinets are soaps, compounds, and tire gels. And I have never had a separation problem with any of them, ever.
 
I live up north in New Jersey, and leave my products in the garage. It's been 2 years, and they all seem to perform well.
 
Best thing is read all your labels and see what temps your products can handle. my chemicals are temps sensitive so I always carry them in a small bag with me. I only carry 1/4 oz jars of my chemicals and the rest are in a toolbox in my house. I use SEM sure coat for dyeing and never had a problem as long as it's all capped tight.
 
I didnt think about the high temps in the garage...my garage digital themometer frequestly rises above 90+ degrees alot in the summer. I guess I will be making room indoors to rule out summer heat/winter freezing product deteriation.

Just avoid large swing in temp... i keep mine in a closet inside the house, so room temp all the time. Have some liquid stored in a garage and being in tropical country, the temp doesn't swing by much but some got damaged anyway

yeah my garage hovers between 90-100 during the summer too. this is what my 845 looks like after 4 or 5 days. i usually give everything a good shake around a few times a week since i workout in my garage but sometimes i get too busy and forget. but i bought some 2 oz bottles (next to the 845) to transfer stuff from the big bottles to keep the big bottles in the house safe from any temp damage ....but again i've been too lazy to do that also.
btw, the 2 oz bottles are awesome, just keep it in my pocket while detailing and pop it out when i need it.

I never thought about this stuff until a bottle of Meg's leather cleaner / conditioner cracked open and leaked all over everything else. Now, I keep telling myself I'll find room in a closet, just haven't gotten around to it...
