Putting together a detailing list, opinions wanted!

Dwayne, would you go with the DP or the ONR on this one? And would you go with DP sealant or the Wolfgang sealant?
 
You can't go wrong with either on the no rinse. As far as the sealant I get better results from the WG.
 
Alright. I'll probably just go with the ONR since it seems to be more popular. Same with the WG sealant.

If you guys have any other suggestions for products to try instead of what I have listed or if there's a chemical/fluid/whatever that I'm missing please let me know. I'd like to get this all taken care of before moving onto towels, mitts, brushes, buckets, etc.
 
I've used Meguiars leather cleaner/conditioner wipes and they were very greasy. Didn't like them at all! One of the few Meguiars products I wasn't satisfied with.

As far IPA wipedowns, just use a plush MF towel. Buy 70% IPA and dilute it 1:1.

The DP Rinseless Wash for Buy1Get1 free is a great deal, and it smells better than ONR in my opinion, besides that, its the same.
Measuring and pouring concentrate out is a lot easier from 32oz bottles than from 1 gallon jug too. :dblthumb2:
 
Sorry about the language.

Basically I just stated that I think wipes are worthless in any way, shape, or form. I've never used any wipes that I thought were even remotely good. To me, they're just for lazy people.

As far as IPA goes, I'm assuming you dilute it 1:1 with water? Does it matter which brand you get as long as it's 70%? I'm assuming it's better to do an IPA wipedown than a wash simply due to you don't have to deal with water all over the car again?

Anything else I should be looking at for chemicals or fluids for a complete detail list?
 
Rubbing alcohol is sold already somewhat diluted. I find you need to tailor it , ie. 90% only has a little water whereas 70% is more diluted already.

Yes, dilute it with water. I find higher concentrations of IPA can soften(not remove) SOME paints and allow the finish to be marred easier when wiped. If you buy 70%(any brand) and dilute it 1:1, you'll be at 35%, which is perfect for an IPA wipedown. You can try 70% IPA, or even 91% undiluted and see what works best for you. I agree with your statement about an IPA wipedown instead of a wash.
 
Alright, I'll pick up some 70% IPA then for my wipedowns and dilute it 1:1 with water. Sounds like a good plan.
 
Well, I started doing a simple compounding job on the car to start getting a feel for things and to use up the XMT Polishes.

I feel that the 1:1 70% IPA is perfect as it will spread well, but still evaporates without much issue. Also, the 5:1 mix of PP to water is perfect as well. It will lift and remove grease from the engine bay but doesn't take much product. I was able to find a couple spray bottles at Wal-Mart for 2 dollars that actually have the dilution ratios and oz. markings on the bottle and hold 24 oz and even have a spot for a label on them. Worked out perfect.

I see now though why you guys recommended the Meguiar's polishes. The XMT doesn't have enough cut to get down to the hard stuff very fast and requires a good amount of pad work. Definitely need a product that will cut faster to save time and effort.
 
Ordered my Meguiar's 105 and 205 today from a local supplier. No shipping is always nice. :) All I need now is just the ONR and Wolfgang sealant and some more 70% IPA. Is there any specific brand of IPA to pick up or are they all the same really? Any other chemicals or fluids I should pick up?

I guess at this point I'm going to get all my chemicals together and get the rest of my stuff ordered and then take inventory on all the towels, pads, etc. that I have before I move on.
 
As far as bottles to hold your mixes, what are you guys using? I see that you can get mixing spray bottles on here, but they seem overpriced. I picked some up at Wal-Mart that are 24 oz. for 50 cents a piece. They had the dilution ratios and mixes on the side plus a nice indented spot to put a label on. They look exactly like these:

32 oz. Heavy Duty PVC White Spray Bottle, storage bottle, chemical sprayer

I'm using 32 oz. plastic bottles from Sam's Club. Anything will work, really.

That's what I figured. Like I said, they look exactly the same and have the same spray heads on them too. I figured it was just a much cheaper and better route to go with things. I'll just stick to using them instead of spending the money on the ones from here. Are you guys labeling them with some sort of adhesive label or just marking them with a permanent marker?
 
Alright, well, moving on then I guess.

At this point I'd like to talk about mitts and brushes. At this point I just have a chenille MF mitt and no brushes. I'm thinking about getting a Schmitt wheel mitt and a Mother's sheepskin mitt.
