Question about my PC XP

I recently purchased a pc xp; it came with a white polishing pad that is already permanetly attached to some kind of backing plate. My question is does any one no if this is a quality pad? I have several other CCS and Hydrotech pads, so I don't want to use this pad if it's not as good as the other pads I already have.. Also it came with a small spacer; does anyone know if it is necassary to use this spacer, and if so when. I used the pc last week for the first time and I did not use the spacer. I used both the 5" and the 3.5" backing plates and did not seem to need the spacer, is this correct?
 
Do not use that white pad. Maybe with a bonnet over it, but not by itself.
 
I think it prevents the backing plate from rubbing against the PC when applying pressure.
 
Okay, I have what's probably an incredibly dumb question but I'm going to ask anyways. Where does the spacer go? Do I just put the spacer over the bolt on the backing plate?
 
The spacer/washer goes inbetween the backing plate and the pc. It does show this in the manual that came in the box with the pc.
 
Throw the pad away. A washer should alway's be used when using a threaded bolt into a spindle.
 
Are you referring to the pad that comes with the PC or throw away any pad that was used without a spacer?

Yes, I believe what Ron is saying is throw away the white pad that comes with the pc. No reason to throw away any pads that were used without the spacer (unless they were damaged). Mine were not.

The backing plates both have a 1/16"" thick washer already in place on the threaded bolt. The spacer I am talking about is the one included in the plastic bag with the wrench; it is 1/8" thick (looks more like a spacer than a washer)...

Isn't that for the pad the comes with the PC? I just got one and at first thought maybe it was for the handle.

No, it's definitely not for the handle. It probably did come for use with the pad/plate that comes with the pc; however I am sure it can also be used with other backing plates (It is a spacer to be used between the backing plate and the pc). If these guys say to use it...then use it (just my opinion), I know I will.

Talking about the pad that came with the pc. The other pads should be fine.

Just use the washer that caome with the pc. All pc backing plates come with a washer. Just save them in case you damage or lose the original washer.
 
If I remember right. It helps get the BP off also. Without the washer it is hard to get the wrench in to the fitting.
 
You can cut the pad off and put Velcro onto the plastic plate to create a 4 1/2" backing plate, granted it doesn't have any cushioning built in but I use mine to support a scrubbing brush.
 
You put the spacer in the wrench bag on the backing plate so the backing plate doesn't rub on the pc itself. Ron is talking about the pad that comes with the pc, throw it away. Come on guys you are making way too much out this.
