So I obviously like the walk-around with the customer idea along with taking a bunch of before pics to show any damage and the condition of the car, but does anyone have any forms that they use as a checklist to have the customer sign?

It would be nice to be able to have a form that shows what you will do to the car and to be free of any pre-existing damage that the car has due to neglect etc.

Anyone have any examples of forms that they use for their business? (Not just walk-around but any forms you guys use )

Thanks

I was just getting ready to pose the same questions myself, but you beat me to it.

I had found some online a few weeks ago, but I can't seem to locate them now.

I'll try and put together a sheet like a body shop has, noting all areas and enough room in the boxes to note what was done. Maybe use 2, 1 beforehand showing areas if interest/note and after showing what ya did for them

That will help alot! :dblthumb2:

try a car rental place (Enterprise) has a form that shows damages to cars before renting them out I believe

That just sounds like a lot of work to me. It also might make the customer feel uncomfortable having to sign something. I do 4-5 vehicles a day...and have never had anybody blame me for breaking anything. I've had people find things that they didn't know were there...but it's always understood that they just didn't see it before.

If I find something out of the norm...I just take a picture before I wash it. If they want to actually blame me...I have proof. I've even made a simple phone call before as well. Just to let them know of my findings...it's never news to them. People aren't as bad as they're made out to be, ha.

:iagree: I can never recall a customer trying to jam me for something I didn't do

There was just a whole thread about someone that got a customer trying to charge them $750 bucks for a scratch under his bumper 3 weeks post detail.

They do exist.

Oh I know. I'm not saying they don't exist. Those kind of people always exist. But, the chances that they are going to be successful in their false accusations are very slim. Without actual proof that the detailer caused the damage...they have nothing to stand on. Just somebody "saying" you caused damage...isn't enough in court (if it gets that far, which it never does).

Usually situations like that are just a simple argument (unless you actually did cause damage). If you do cause damage...you should take care of it, plain and simple. If not...then they can try all they want!

It's unfortunate for the person who put up that $750 accusation thread. His situation is very different. He has an account at a golf course...so just the accusation alone, would be enough to possibly ruin that detailers opportunity to work at that location. So, in that case...I could see having a list. But for someone with their own shop, and regular customers...there's not much someone like that can do to them IMO.

If someone tries to sue me for something I didn't do, they better go ahead and factor in the cost of new front teeth too

Well said. I hear dentures are pretty cheap these days...you know, with all those veneers being put in. lol
