Hey guys, I have some questions as to how you guys handle the following when you have customers over at your shop or garage:

What do you have them do as they wait for you to be done?

What if they get bored?

Do they just drop off their vehicle?

Is there such thing as a loaner vehicle?

I initially thought of doing mobile detailing but since I'm in highschool and I just got my license I don't know every part of Houston to drive around. And my customers are mostly people from my school that's literally 5 minutes away from my house. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance

I work out of my garage and my customers drop the car off and pick it up when I'm done. I have shuttle service for people in my area and in the past 3 years I've never had a problem. A lot of my customers drop off their cars the night before. I've never had a customer wait while I detail and most my details take most of the day.

I detail out of my garage on weekends only and only ever do 1 car per weekend, so usually the customer drops it off on a Friday night and collects on a Sunday afternoon.

Currently I detail at home and I usually work it out before hand during my estimate. They can drop it off or I take them to their work. If it's close then I sometimes pick it up from them. I wouldn't advise doing that unless you have some insurance. I say just perfect your skills and it will work itself out. If you do good work they will make the arrangements.

Back in the states I detail out of my garage. And like others have mentioned most of my details are an all day affair. Here in Japan I use the self serve shop on base, MOST of my customers will drop the car off and pick it up later. I've had a few that wanted to see the process and stayed- that can be annoying but it's their car. If my assistant is with me I've had her take customers home and pick them up later as well.

Ohhh, I never thought about using the post's shop! We've got a pretty decent one here at Fort Gordon...

I work out of my garage, I typically drive them back to their house\apartment\workplace, or they have a ride already arranged.

I get the vehicle dropped off the night before and pick up the next day. I do some pickup's and drop off as well, but rarely

Most (97%) of mine have been drop offs. The rest were either me bringing them home or picking the car up and dropping off. I'd bet yours will work out about the same. Best to avoid pickup and drop off unless you HAVE to.

Most of ours are drop off,I do pick up but only local. I also have a ton of insurance, I would not just rely on client insurance.

The easiest way, that leaves you least liable, is to just have them drop off the vehicle and have someone bring them back to pick it up. To alleviate them waiting around just give yourself plenty of time to finish before they arrive. If they show up early/unannounced then put them to work.;D lol Be straight forward with customers and don't take on unnecessary risks just for the sake of convenience to the customer. Most people seeking detailing service at a fixed location do not expect a pick/delivery service. I have had clients straight up say they can drop off if I can give them a ride. Which for me isn't a problem if they live within a reasonable distance and the profit from the job makes it worth it.

Thanks...this definitely helps.
